At the moment I'm decided to just go for New Metabo hc 260c for 495 from ffx
http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Meta ... eg%20Stand

Was wondering maybe anyone has seen recently some good deal where you can find this model or the countless clones of it somewhere cheaper?
Or maybe there is some better model that I have missed for the max 500pound price limit I have?
Must be able to do at least 260mm, needs to have Induction motor and needs to be portable enough..

Not looking at the 2nd hand market, as I have tried to hunt for a good one for the right price for already a month and I'm not waiting any longer.

i havent looked, but have used ffx in the past and always found their prices to be very competitive. Not sure about the clones.

I don't think you'll go far wrong with the metabo, that format has been around under different names for many years and is generally well regarded. You may be able to get a better deal at the D&M tool show next weekend if its not too far from you.
Edit: just seen you're based in newcastle so don't think it'd be worth the drive.

Not a portable, but easy to move if you have a castor frame underneath, bit more than your budget, but again its a three blade unit: http://www.foxmachinery.co.uk/acatalog/ ... ssers.html

quite a lot more than I was ready to spend, 500quid for the metabo was already super-super A LOT for me.
but i started looking ,what about this fox model, can be had for 320 from amazon
Spec wise its almost like the metabo, however probably with a brush motor - BUT it's 180 cheaper.
Anyone have experience with fox machines?

Look around at all the others about the same price range they all have the same outer casing, ventilation slots and NVR switch in the same position, also the extension legs on the feed side of the planer, I presume they are all re-badged clones of each other.

The Metabo looks like a good deal from FFX - its a really well known model - spares will be available practically forever
it has an induction motor for less noise and long life.
The Fox will be harder to get spares for noisier and some of the reviews of recent Fox machines has been less than favourable .

well just dropped half a grand and went for the metabo 260c
way way more than I initially wanted to spend however went for it as I need it for the long run and hope so the quality is there.
