does anyone know of any books on antique furniture that shows dimensions and method of construction (ie various joints used )

Hi Les,

Try a book called ‘Modern Cabinet Work’ by Percy Wells, ISBN 1892836289. The word ‘Modern’ is a relative term, for the book was first published in 1908! The above is a reprint of the recent 1922 3rd edition! Amazon currently have new stock:

The book includes many [reduced] line drawings each generally with a scale or some measurements. Some may consider the writing style to be rather ….traditional, perhaps even ….antiquated, but that doesn’t detract from the high quality content. I find it interesting and a nice reference.

They will be in imperial measurements of course, but then I suppose you should work to Imperial to reproduce this kind of furiture.
