Hi folks,

Space is limited in our kitchen. I want to fit a ‘pull-out’ cabinet above the fridge, in a space about 120 cm high, 75cm wide, and 60cm out from the wall, behind the fridge. I envisage the finished article to resemble two (or maybe three) drawers, mounted on their ends, with wire-basket type shelves inside, to hold the usual suspects found in a pantry. Obviously the baskets need ‘walls’ on them, so they can prevent bottles and jars etc, falling out, yet will be readily accessible from either side. The sliding units would be about 600mm from front to back and of a height to fit into the space available above the fridge. The width will depend on whether or not I can fit in two or three 'drawers'.

I hope some pro 'kitcheneers' can see what I see, and perhaps could advise on the type of slides I would need, and where to source the kind of baskets I am ‘dreaming’ up. If I am really in ‘dream-land’ here, then by all means say so! Any takers please?

I would be most obliged and my thanks in anticipation for any advice.

:D

Thanks Carl. That's something like I envisaged. But a bit small. A good idea for pother cupboards though. I've actually got Google to understand what I wanted and found something at Bullers.

I was using the search-word pantry and not larder. (Not quite as Middle Class as I thought then!

The only difference between Buller's version is that mine won't be floor to ceiling; just above the fridge. So it might mean making it myself, if I can find the metal-ware.

Thanks again.

John - if space in your kitchen is limited then I think you may find 2 or 3 mini pull-out larder units wasteful of space as not only do you have to leave space vertically between the stacking layers in each unit, but also horizontally between units.

I'm doing a kitchen build at the moment and have gone for Blum Tandembox larder drawers. These are softclose and the slide mechanism is very compact and contained within the base of the drawer so that the drawer side is very close to the inside of the unit. They would seem to utilise space extremely well, and as you install your own drawer base and back you can also build them custom widths.

Just my two penn'orth. :|

Thanks fellahs.

I'll return later. Got to go shopping!

Main problem is it's not just 'my' kitchen, and SWIMBO wants one like the Buller example, which to have it as shown, means it will have to go where the present larder cupboard is now; if I can persuade her we need to move the 'fridge into the other corner! SWIMBOs!

Fitted one a couple of years ago and it was a Magnet Kitchen , the larder unit was 600 wide by the full height 2m !!!! I thiink . I have to agree with Roger that there is alot of wasted space , out of a 600 wide unit the baskets were probably only 350 wide .

Kind regards Sam

Thanks to one and all for the information.

On balance, I think I ought to go for something like :

Even the good lady seems to be coming round to this. If she wants the 'tall' pantry look, there's no reason I can't put one cupboard atop the other, and put the 'fridge to the right hand side. Although that's going to be six wire shelves, so at those prices I shall have to look around.

Biggest problem is space of course. The kitchen is not quite 10 feet square. So I will get a shoe-horn as well, while I am at it!

Thanks again folks :D
