Not the one I'd planned to make although I have started on that one, but I've been itching to have ago at one these. It's one of Steve Goods but I changed the base. Instead of a stepped base, I took a 1" block and routered a rebate for the sides.
Hope that makes sense! I've sprayed one coat of Wood Silk on it, haven't used Wood Silk before so I'll see what it's like once dried. I think the wood is Oak, I know the base was, it was part of some off cuts from a timber yard.

Very nice Pete and agree it looks like Oak.
Cheers
Brian
Ps won't the water leak out? 9-) lol

Very nice piece there Pete. That will grace any place in the home and I bet your other half is delighted with it. I am almost certain that the oak is American red oak, one of my favourite woods to work with.

Hi pete, nice vase, i've never used wood silk either, would be interested as to what you think of it, cheers

Thanks Brian :) When I mentioned a wooden vase to my mum, she couldn't get her head around it. After a few minutes she said, "Is it for silk flowers"? :D

Appreciate the comments Geoff :) It was a nice wood to work with. I used a Hobbies No3, think it was 19tpi, but it cut very easily and I managed to do the hole thing with one blade. Just as well really as it's my last one.
I'm glad you mentioned the Wood Silk the other day as it was nice and easy spraying the internal cuts and inside of the vase :)

It's the first time I've used it properly. Geoff recommended it a few days back, £1.50 a can at Wilko. While I was there I also bought some Danish Oil, Teak Oil and Linseed Oil, although
they didn't have the boiled version in stock which I read helps it dry quicker. I picked the Wood Silk for the vase as it was very easy spraying the internal cuts, but I like how it's made the grain stand out
as well. I'd have to try them all on a few off cuts to see how the others fair. I suppose knowing which oil is best for certain woods is an art in itself :)

Very nice looking piece Pete. Well done.

The finish looks great too. My son is visiting for a few days and he's brought a couple of cans over with him from the UK. He got them from his local Wilkinsons for £1.50 which is much cheaper than I can find here in Germany. I'm looking forward to trying it on my next project.
