afternoon gents,
woke up this morning and my partner said lets go do something, i replied uhhhhhh like what, so we went for bricky then off to the car boot thats 15mins away, i try to stay away from bootys, as i like most tent to buy what i don't need, being a tat more experienced and trying my hardest to be selective i walked away spending the total of £7.50

Moore and wright divider, no rust and perfectly working 50p
hard black slate stone 50p
no 3,5,7, james howarth plough irons and a small brass square £1.50
two stunning woodies £5. (£3 jointer and £2 smoother) i only wanted the jointer but felt bad for the smoother (both have same owners stamp and didn't want to separate) I've changed the iron on the joiner as it was just too big and the wedge didn't fit properly. both the woodies irons are I&h sorby (pig logo) and in new con, the jointer iron i removed is the thickest parallel iron I've seen,
over all a good haul, i love the the planes most :)

Those Planes look like they have been well cared for. You see so many that have been abused or left to rot in a cellar for decades.
£5 for Planes with (usually) such good quality chipbreakers and blades. Absolute bargains. It's amazing how little perceived and actual value these things have. Recently I planed a piece of Ebony that measured only 12" x 1" x 1 " . That bit of wood cost me far more than the wooden Plane that I was using!

Thanks Mignal, i wasn't going to get these plane but as you say when I looked at them as notice the condition (I love the tote on the jointer) very 18c or something like that. I have to say these pics where after I gave them a rag down with some oil but they we're perfect from the beginning.
I know where your comming from these planes are over looked and under valued. It's good for me clearly :)

The jointer dosent have a makers mark. The smoother is my C.NURSE
Id rather a cheap plane and use that on expensive timber that a premium ££££ plane and use that on pine with the same results :)

I'm sure the jointer isn't beech, when I compare it to other beech planes they looks very diffrent, maby a higher grade Wood.I'm probably wrong tho

Cheers

Charlie Nurse...late of Maidstone...absconded to Wandsworth or some London area...the sign of the prancing horse!

Pity that jointer cannot be named...looks a beauty.

Good score mate!

I have a good selection of nurce planes now, from earlie to late. Not as impressive as your gabriel collection tho jim,

Good haul!

The try plane is interesting - it seems to have a very upright handle. Could it be a replacement?

Of the plough irons, the number 3 (1/4") is a good find. From experience, this size seems to be the difficult one to track down if you're trying to make up a set. Anything by Moore and Wright will be top quality - for 50p, that's a steal!

I hate these threads!
Well, not really, I'm just envious.

Just take a look at the kind of sale offers I find about here on the 2nd hand market. The iron one is described as a "very old plane" at 80 euros (that's about £67! ), the woodies as "old but in still working order" at 25 euros (a little over £20). These are just typical examples, I could show you more...

So, as I said at the start, I hate these threads...

 you'd be better getting a flight over here and getting your gear out way.
As long as they clean up and work fine nothing else matters

Yes, I should. But food and lodging are so horribly expensive in Britain...
