12" Chop Saw

12" chop saws seem readily available in the USA but I can't find a single one here in the UK. All I can find are plenty of slide mitre saws.

Would anyone be able to tell me where I can get one here please?

Yes, but that's in the USA. I know that the same model was withdrawn in the UK 10 or so years ago - I have a colleague who has a semi-dead one and who can't/won't replace it. Hitachi have also withdrawn their 12in compound mitre saws (non-slider) from the UK market as have Bosch and I've never seen a Makita 12incher here

I scratched my head on this one. then I remembered that Virutex do a 12in non-slider, the TS33L/W (or here if you'd like to see a bigger pic) which should be available through Nye in Coventry (they show it on their web site). It can also be had with a table saw top as the TM33L.

Bosch still sell a combined mitre and table saw in the UK, the Bosch GTM12JL, but not a mitre saw only version any more

Of course the Italian industrial saw maker OMGA make just what the OP is looking for, but their saws have induction motors, are industrially rated and consequently are very expensive. Much favoured in the caravan industry because they are all but unbreakable. This is their most basic 300mm (12in) model which is about £1k, I'm told (from J J Smith, Liverpool):

I did finally find one, a discontinued but brand new Hitachi C12LC.

When I purchased it I told the salesman I wasn't bothered about what I thought was the 'gimmicky' digital read-out. Since using the saw I've realised how useful, and accurate, the digital read-out is!

Extremely accurate saw, with much better dust collection than my previous DeWalt, but this saw is awfully noisy that's the only downside.
