    Mobile phone screen damage

I used to do iPhones for friends, but after the 4 came out I had enough, as they just became too much work - I could not be bothered with hot air guns to open them! I'm sure the Moto E would be a *little* easier but prepare yourself for a long evening as the first time especially is damn fiddly...

    Mystery tool on Ebay

At first glance I thought maybe making holes in leather strapping as they look like larger versions of my belt hole tool! Though those would be odd holes, and they seem too complicated for that.

I can't see the plating from the pic, but perhaps one of the middle layers is gold leaf?

Windows 10 free for one year

I think it's more small/medium business move. At work all the machines are on still on Windows 7 as 8 was far too alien to the staff. And, as many others did, we brought in windows 7 machines even when 8 had long been out. If I had to pay to upgrade them to Windows 10, I wouldn't bother - but...

This joke brought to you courtesy of Roy Underhill...

    Q. What do The Prince of Wales, a gorilla, and a bald man have in common? A. One is the heir apparent..... one has a hairy parent... and the other has no hair apparent. (From an old episode of The Woodwright's Shop I found on Youtube the other day.)

    Best Anti Rust Product

When I looked some years back at this I ended up using Boeshield T9. A heavy coat of this can leave a tacky finish, so I then use renaissance wax on top. Whether that's the best I couldn't say -and certainly not the cheapest I'm sure- but the surfaces I've used this method on have not rusted at...

    Record Hand Planes RIP

It seems a crying shame that such knowledge which may only have existed online could be lost. I'd never even seen this before, but as I begin to investigate old hand planes I can see this will be valuable. Least it's on archive.org for now. I must admit to grabbing an archive of the site whilst...

    Rutlands Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

Indeed it looks rather like the generic one I got from Argos many years back - which was only for some rough chop saw work, not fine work: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 113079.htm ...I never actually used it for anything I needed to check the accuracy closely for, so don't ask me...

Ha, what are the chances of that! I think the links you were looking for were: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/post945041.html http://www.northlincsweb.net/ParkinsonsShipley/index.html ...from the advertising material above, I'm thinking my vice is probably 60's then. Cheers Andy, I'll do...

    Parkinsons Perfect Vice Advice

Hi all. Life kept me away from woodwork for a while - but I'm now back, and in good timing have been lucky enough to be given this "Parkinsons Perfect Vice 15" which come more clement weather will become part of a "proper" bench (lack of space means I'll be building that outside). Seems in very...

    Yandles Show

Well, I've made it to Martock, and so far I can report: I've found the pub and the cider is good! :) Best take it easy though, otherwise my plan to make an early start tomorrow might not happen!

    Yandles Show

Aha. I was in the Axminster store when it reopened some weeks back -it's now much bigger, and even harder not to come out without buying anything! Funny, I have a much abused Ford Escort also - though if the suspension ends up too low, then I suspect so will my bank account balance! :lol...

Terry - it's ok I've got some very high-class accommodation already booked - a tent in a field. Hey it was cheap, and I've even got electric! ;-) Need to save pennies for the important things! New toy Olly? I'll be about both days I think, but more so Friday - hoping to pick up a few nice...

    Timber for Box Making

If your doing it by hand, I expect others can give you better advice than me. I looked at options for this, I guess the best hand tool option would be a frame saw if you can find one. I however, cheated. I used my Dewalt Plunge saw and track. I made an MDF jig (as my makeshift workbench has...

    Timber for Box Making

I agree with Chems - apart from just the pure maths of it, you need to plan for the wood not behaving. In my case, I recently made the classic mistake with some wood I'm using. I re-sawed it into two boards (don't ask how, it wasn't pretty as I don't have a tablesaw or a bandsaw!) and cleaned...

New member wanting advice! (On starting out)

I have been looking at building bass guitars myself for a while, and after reading "make your own electric guitar & bass" by Dennis Waring & David Raymond (recommended) and helping out a friend with electric guitars I will try and offer some advice. A couple of perhaps non-obvious things I can...

Fake goods- anything I can do?

And with regard to headphones, it's a minefield. Take a look at "Skull Candy" a brand popular amongst younger people but what I have considered for ages to be what I would term a "legal scam" - seemingly backed up by his recent story: http://gizmodo.com/5617200/the-secret-s ... ap-earbuds
