velcro backing on sander no longer sticky, what to do ?

Sounds silly, but have you tried to freshen it up with a very stiff nylon brush. Did the trick on one of mine. Those pad protect discs are good however. Mike 8)

    Making your own Dominos

I have also made dominoes, but for a different purpose. I find that the dominoes, in particular the large deep ones, are a devil for testing the fit. Often one has to pull them out with a mole wrench! The little ridge on the side is fine for the final glue up but can be a pain when the work...

FOR SALE LIE NEILSEN 62 LOW ANGLE JACK - SOLD

As a matter of interest, why are you selling it? I find that this is one of the best planes I have ever used. It is handy and very versatile. Best of Luck Mike 8)

    Festool TS 55 - should I?

Don't hesitate. I would put this as one of the best power tools ever. It is addictive maybe, but what the hell! Mike 8)

    RI Dovetail Transference Jig

Fancy being proud of the fact that there is a sub forum facility for the chosen few! Congratulations, I am sure 6000 odd users are thrilled to hear that they are second class citizens after all! You missed most of the points I was trying to make. A much more useful variation on this jig, to my...

    RI Dovetail Transference Jig

Nobody said you are and that was not my intention, but for some of us, regrettably, 40 years is still a little young in the Art, try 50 mate! The jig is fine, but I have just done a poll of 4 mates in the trade today and they don't feel that they need a jig. Three use the same method as me and...

    RI Dovetail Transference Jig

I could not agree more. If the boards are not exactly the same width then the jig won't work so well, even out by half a mil. I have always found that for a drawer or box it is more important to line up the bottom groove with a tight test piece as part of the method, having machined it first...

    Scraper filing jig

I find that the filing square bit is only the beginning. I use a slot guide cut on the bandsaw. If I am after a really good fine burr for finish work, rather than scraping off some glue joint, I treat the scraper as if it was a normal blade and hone it all the way to a fine stone. It seems to...

    Bridgecitytools honing guide

I am sure it works perfectly, their stuff usually does. I notice also the video on the drilling jig, I am sure that it sells for a mint, but I think it would be a fantastic tool to use, really useful! Most drilling jigs I have seen are completely useless for accurate positioning. Don't worry...

    RI Dovetail Transference Jig

It is just a question really (since I tend to use a different method anyway, based on using the groove for a bottom, for example). I see that some people, including famous cabinet makers, when they use such transfer jigs, make spacers (some built into the jig) so that they bring the pins out...

    RI Dovetail Transference Jig

Do you plan to make spacers ( one for through and one for blind) to bring the pins out so that you can cut on the line itself? I know Robert does but I have always puzzled about this, since the line would then be gone therefore any chance of paring to the line would be gone. Nice jig by the...

    Bridgecitytools honing guide

The honing guide looks better value, relatively, than the plane. The karl Holtey stuff is in the same quality vein. Engineering of this quality is good news, are we not all fed up with chinese stuff which is so badly made it makes you cringe? By the very fact that they produce such stuff, I...

    Which Bandsaw Blade

Agree , a matter of opinion and also the quality of the bandsaw. Bandsaws wich cannot tension the blade properly can benefit from thinner blades, top of the range bandsaws can tension a fatter blade which wont deviate so much under stress and those with an adequate cutting speed( say 1500m/min...

    SOLD: Beech Hardwood Workbench

I made a bench in Bubinga on a Sapele undercarriage last Autumn. I sourced 2 Jorgensen Vices from the States to fit, not been disappointed. I decided on 2 rows of dogs holes along the front and a double row opposite the main vice. Plenty of Veritas kit on it really makes a bench sing, I was...

    SOLD: Beech Hardwood Workbench

The under carriage of a bench is very important, and this one looks very sturdy. In fact a lot of commercial benches have undercarriages which are inadequate. For example the very expensive Sjobegs under carriage is not up to the standard of the tops, adequate but just. Richard Maguire, for...

    SOLD: Beech Hardwood Workbench

That has got to be a real bargain considering the rubbish for sale at twice the price! 19mm/3/4" dog holes has to be the standard now which I think will be so for some time to come. I have been surprised that hardly anybody has emulated Veritas in producing all the 3/4 " hardware. Anybody...

    The Start of a Gloat

They look the bees knees. However probably too nice to use! There was a set of these, full size, in a certain magnificent tool chest in Weymouth that I spotted last year, these also looked as if they were just on display! (Only kidding) Will they offer the usual choice of woods for handles...

    Scraper filing jig

As somebody who did just that 20 odd years ago, went right trough the side of the palm and out of the other side, I will second that! Mike 8)

    Thinking of upgrading my SCMS

I had the Dewalt 712, OK but really noisy, dust everywhere even with extraction on and a pain to change bevel angle and get back to square one accurately. Needed adjusting often to be really accurate. I know have the KAPEX and I am really pleased with it. It has not let me down yet, and on jobs...
