    Touching up/repairing old polyurethane?

Thanks buddy, I am not after an invisible repair, its a part of the guitars aesthetic personality now, it is what it is. So, to make it less obvious or messy I would need to remove the separated finish? Apparently, I have been told, Matsumoku used Polyurethane and not polyester, If it is indeed...

    Touching up/repairing old polyurethane?

Its a valuable guitar in its rarity , money wise not so, it was built by Matsumoku between 72 and 74, from what I gather its one of a thousand built however this is unconfirmed, there are very few references to it on the internet so information is scarce as are other examples. This is why I...

    Touching up/repairing old polyurethane?

Older ones would be nitro, also some modern ones but not many, shellac is more an acoustic guitar finish as far as I know and not really mainstream commercial. Polyurethane or Polyester, I really thought they were the same thing, I had a brief look and it would seem they arnt! I would assume...

    Touching up/repairing old polyurethane?

I have a large chip in some polyurethane that I need to repair, I need to fill it in, the original has yellowed over the last 40 odd years to a golden honey colour. If I fill with new polyurethane will I have to tint it to get it to match the existing? Im not after an invisible repair, just want...

    Cloudy white in poly finish.

I bought a guitar on the week end, its got a poly finish over black. On the head stock there is a patch that has gone milky/cloudy white. I don't know how long its been like this or what caused it, the guitar was made in 2002. Is there a way to fix this without stripping it? Its right above a...

Swollen chip board repair (water damage)

You are right, I have nothing to lose. This is what it should look like when its all put together. Perhaps the easiest way might be to cut two new panels from MDF? Get a local joinery place to cut the grooves then veneer the whole lot, lid and plinth. Ive never veneered before but how...

Swollen chip board repair (water damage)

I did think about that matt but Id never be able to match the veneer with the record players plinth, so I'd have to build a new plinth as well. The only problem is I don't have a router to gut the grooves into it, if it wasn't for that I'd be heading down that road without giving it a second...

Oak Furniture Land - how's this for hype ?

I couldn't agree more, it seems some furniture designers these days don't understand the same aspects of designing furniture that people of yesteryear did. I have six kitchen chairs round my dining table, they date from early Georgian right through to present day. It seems Georgian chairs , at...

Oak Furniture Land - how's this for hype ?

No veneer in er, Id rather spend the extra and get some nice furniture with veneer on it. Antiques for me are the way to go, pieces that have stood for hundreds of years, most of their lives in damp conditions cant really be faulted.

Swollen chip board repair (water damage)

Ive got this old record player from the early 60's, my plan is to restore it, Its a lovely old thing and well worth some effort. The lid and plinth are chip board with veneer, the veneer could well be vinyl. At some point the edges of two bits of chip board got wet and have swollen. Without...

    New business idea. Can't fail.

It would have to be a tax exempt coiler in a blue and white box to make that kind of money.

    Oak side table

My Oak dining table is done with linseed, Having young kids in the house it gets abuse hurled at it daily, it gets painted on, scribbled on with marker pens, ink pens , crayons, it gets glue spread all over it and its still looking just like the day I first oiled it. I put hot pans straight out...

    Oak side table

I would just finish it with boiled linseed, a coat every few months will give the oak a lovely golden finish.

    RECORD POWER BS250 WOES

They were not selling it as ''new'' , and lots of companies use EBay to flog their customer returns, or ''outlet'' sites. http://www.dell.com/learn/uk/en/ukdfh1/ ... lXX&ven2=e https://www.nilfiskoutlet.co.uk/ From the Dell outlet (where I bought my computer)..

    RECORD POWER BS250 WOES

The trade descriptions act states that an item sold as ''new'' must be ''new'' , a returned or refurbished item must be described as such, If you sell an item to someone it is no longer ''new'' , if they send it back, regardless of condition it is second hand. Lots of info on the net regarding...

    RECORD POWER BS250 WOES

Its illegal for a retailer to se-sell a customer return even if it was returned free from any damage, what they can do I think, is set up a sister company selling refurbished or graded goods.
