I'm ok either way with timings also. However, this side of Xmas would be good as it's something else to play with in the 'shop over the break :D :D :D furyjohn

    help with OPJ style gates

hi Benchwayze, yes that small fence is a concern. I could remove it or replace with a much weakened one but either way, the presence of the gate will (i hope !) at least make anyone think twice plus it will also make the other houses in the area without gates look like a more appealing...

    help with OPJ style gates

thanks 9fingers, so i guess i'll have to make a fully framed gate - not sure of the terminology but a figure of 8 shape with a diagonal brace. what are the best joints to use for the frame ? half-lap ? M+T ? plane old screw/nail - pocket-hole style through the face of the stile into the rails...

    help with OPJ style gates

9fingers, cracking idea - i guess i probably could get a "metal collar" made for the post. Given that the post is so low compared to the height of the gate, would this not make the gate a bit flimsy at the top ? i.e. twist easily with a bit of a push? s'pose if it was, it would make it harder...

    help with OPJ style gates

hi 9fingers, yes, one gate for each. I had thought about the vaulting on the fence scenario which i must admit is a concern, but by putting gates there it's made it more difficult for anyone to get through to the back of the house...and out again...leaving it open is not an option. At a push i...

    help with OPJ style gates

ah, sorry, i should have been clearer. The neighbours gate is very flimsy indeed and we can't put ours adjacent to it as our back door is there ! The plan is to make 2 gates nearer the front and the neighbour can decommision his gate furyJohn

    help with OPJ style gates

Hi all, I'm attempting to make some gates approx 6ft tall for the side of the house in the style of OPJ's inspired recent posting. The gates themselves I *think* will be straightforward, however, the complication I have is the dividing fence between the 2 houses and how to deal with it. I...

    Help with CH Boiler

Update: DougB: It's just cut out again when we were running the bath - plenty of pressure in the water too. The Heating was off so does this make a difference to the diagnosis ? MowtownMartin: I've checked the gas tap - the only taps are under and slightly inside the boiler so the chances of...

    Help with CH Boiler

Thanks guys. We've only really noticed the problem when the heating hasn't come on - although noticed it once when there was no hot water, so can't say for defo which was the cause. The pump is as quiet as a mouse so i guess it's unlikely that it's the cause. I drained and refilled (incl...

    Help with CH Boiler

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can give me some independent advice before i call in the pros. We have a Baxi Combi 80Eco boiler that cuts out intermittently. What happens is that the Overheat (Safety) Thermostat is activated which then prevents the boiler from igniting. Resetting the thermostat...

    Nested Coffe Table Advice

Ahhhh, Benchwayze, now i see what you mean about your sketch. However, in my previous post i said going for 3"what i should have said was going for 3" look. I think your idea of the torsion box is favourite as it saves a lot of stock, hence cost. Would also reduce the potential for...

    Nested Coffe Table Advice

Thanks for the input guys. If i'm being honest it isn't just SWMBO who liked the chunky look - i do too, so i'm gonna aim for 3" thick. Thanks to all your input i've now decided i'll go with the hollow approach and the more i think about it the more it makes sense. OPJ - i usually don't...

    Nested Coffe Table Advice

Morning all. SWMBO has commissioned her next piece of furniture so I'm back again for some advice/tips on re-creating this nested set of tables. http://furnitureulike.co.uk/index.php?t ... t_id=32202 She wants them to have that "chunky look" and from the pics i'm guessing they're about...

    Another Tiny Trim

Excellent news. Well happy for the both of ye. Just read your other post too, about the "news" from work...chin up. when you're working in these jobs you meet people, who know people, and it's (generally) not too long before something else comes along. And to finish, where's the Hign Chair! ?

Baby High Chair - complete !

Ha, ha, ha. Well spotted. I never thought about the different speed along the edge of the box core bit, although in my case it was purely a dull edge that cause the burning as the new bit gave no burn at all. Fantastic. Can't believe i didn't think of that especially whilst using my...

Baby High Chair - complete !

Guys, finally finished (3/5/2009) the Baby High Chair and here's the story... bought some steamed beech for the project. Original intention was to use standard beech, but they only had 2" boards and i had no way to resaw so had to go with the 1" steamed beech. Here are the boards. They look...
