    Painting lots of wood

I'm currently painting my kitchen which has t&g and plywood walls (it's a boat). At the moment I've applied one coat of Ronseal primer/undercoat/knotting. The grain on the ply is still quite visible...is there anything that I can apply at this stage to fill it? Thanks Charly

    Cupboard/dressing table construction

I need to source some drawer runners for a cabinet (18mm mdf). The inside depth is 360mm. The cheapest I've found is £4.99/pr for some single extensions of dubious quality. I'd quite like double extensions. Also, I bought feet along with hinges as Ikea. I cut the feet down and then had no...

Router sub base help (Macallister 1500w)

I've been making a trammel for my router but have run into problems. The internet says that the "done" thing is to remove the plastic sub base that comes with the router and replace it with a 6mm MDF home made one. I've found that the base casting is lower around the bit so I figured that...

    Electrics

I'm changing the light fittings in my bedroom for wall washer downlights. First two have gone in fine but the third is causing me a problem. The wire comes out of the wall in the centre. The wall washer needs to sit in the centre and there is little room for error as it is down from a roof...

    Outdoor projects

So I need to make some raised beds and compost bins for the spring.... Should I be after pressure treated or tanalised wood? Or both? Can I cut dovetails with a jigsaw? </muppet> Thanks

    Electrolysis

So I bought some new (old) toys and they are a bit rusty. Currently, I have a cap iron and blade hooked up to the -ve side of a battery charger. The anode is an old circular saw blade (homebase special so no carbide in sight). Both are positioned with wood and cable ties in a plastic box with...

    Cut list calculator?

Is there a cutting calculator that will minimize wood use anywhere online? I've just designed something I already built (!) for my RADA application but need to prove how damn clever I am by not scribbling on the back on an envelope! I'll be scanning an uploading my plans later for a check up...

How do I....I don't know what it's called!

I want to colour wood "unnatural" colours whilst still allowing the grain to be perfectly obvious...purple will be the first experiment (I have to finish this bed I'm sleeping in!) Example here http://www.daisyrock.com/products/wildwood/ww_ad_ae.htm thank you

    Guide rails

I will be picking up a new saw on Saturday. As I can't afford the space/££ for a table saw, I need an accurate and easy guide rail. I've seen Rockler list one but no one in the uk. I know I can use a thin rip of MDF/ply/hardwood but I really need something faster and less prone to human error...

    Newbie seeks tool advice

Whilst making a light box and my bed recently, I had major issues with getting things square and had to do a lot of hand work as a result. Years ago, when redoing the interior of my (sadly missed) VW camper, I bought a circular saw and router from Homebase. The circular saw is totally goosed...
