    Using a traditional Ring Tool

Hi Ring tools are great tools to hollow with as they are true cutting tools. They do however bite if not presented to the wood but more than worth using to use for end grain, bowls etc. The bevel (smaller diameter) is for hollowing, with the tool edge being presented at 45 deg to the wood as...

    WIP

Pete Thanks for the Kudos but I just have a passion like you and fail many times along the way. I also have a substantial fire wood pile. :D I have found that using woodturning as part of an overall composition has helped me stretch the way I work, think, how to exploit the materials I use...

    WIP

Hi Pete very 'Ikebana' as I know you know :D. Just leave it on the side and after a week walking past it and musing over the composition you will come to a suitable conclusion. This form of work is steeped in Zen as you know and is a discipline in itself. I like where you are going with this.

    Hybrid helmet designs

Hi George Lovely work I like the amalgamation of wood and resin works well. The first wooden helmets date back to the 1st century BC although there is little evidence of them any more compared to the later metal ones for obvious reasons. I wonder if they turned them on fixed head or swivel...

    Contemporary Scottish Targe

Hi Lee It is obvious that my comments have caused a stir and I apologise to you for taking the thread off track, but not for what I said, as I said it and the results are as they are. May be I looked at the situation incorrectly may be not, may be it was not important enough to even look into...

    Sad News

My thoughts are with Sue and family at this very sad time. I only had the priveledge of meeting Chris on one occassion at a Bash, where he taught me how to turn his flowers. A warm approachable character full of enthusiasm. Very sad news indeed.

    Suart Batty woodturning

certainly looks the business and I am sure it will be outside of my wallet I saw Stuart Batty in America, he certainly puts everything he has into what he does and I never saw such a set up either before or since. His marketing is full on but then he sees the importance of it, 20% of a product...

    Mood Wood Turnings 2011 - UPDATE 22.11.11

A closk is a shoe that the north Mongolian tribes would wear in the snow. Obviously fabricated from animal skin and not wood as trees do not grow on the plains. So that the hunters would know what time dinner was they would add twigs that acted as a form of sun dial. Your clock and its...
