    I always though that If I was taking off more at some points that this meant the wood was not flat. I have learned by this thread it may not be the case so thanks.

    Best way to clear leaves is put the mower on the highest cutting and hoover them up like that. I did that and smashed two windows of my neighbours car with flying stones.

    They do need work, I look at the honest car booter with a few tools rather than the dealers, I was impressed with power plane as I got a PAT test certificate, a Legal ownership certificate and a years guarantee! Dipped out on 6, 3m 2x2 pine for a fiver after deciding to "Come back later."

    Make sure u dont strip your electric drill down cos it wont work after you have turned off the electric, to do a "safe job" or dont go out and buy a £150 drill cos ur cheap one did not work after three uses (same scenario as above) yes I t was me!

    Weather proof and doors, thought about perspex rather than glass but could use 12mm glass (Vandals is our problem.)

    No I dont have a mandrel this hole through is not got any lining in I assumed that went in last. I use a Clarke Lathe. and use the main tail stock which came with it. perhaps I should be using a mandrel

    Thanks everybody I am a struggling beginner and have the time and resources to start a new skill. I agree there is lots of support here, (Look at my bird box thread) and made improvements to my design and successfully sold one.

    hi bought some hardwood pen blanks and drilled a 7mm hole through the middle but as soon as the wood goes onto the lathe and I begin cutting the wood falls to bits or snaps in half! have I cranked up the tailstock to tight? MTA.
