    Scotch Brite Grey

I often see Americans using Scotch Brite pan scourers as a "sanding option". I tried this but the ones I used were green and some colour transferred to the wood! I then noticed that one of the Americans was talking about grey Scotch Brite which, I guess, would not be such a problem? I can't find...

Cabinet door painting: which edge first?

I am painting some cabinet doors and always have a problem. I've done all the prep, primer, etc. I tend to paint the backs and let them dry then I paint the front and the edges. The problem is that there is always a little over-run from the edges to the back no matter how careful I am. I wipe...

    Cabinet door gap consistency

I am about to fit H-hinges to doors that fit inside the face frame of a cabinet and sit flush with the frame. The gap around the door has to be consistent all round or it will be noticeable. With the best will in the world, hinges are never 100% stable and tend to sag under weight. So, I can...

    Scroll Saw Book

Hi, I want to buy a scroll saw book for a woodworker who is new to scroll saws but an accomplished turner and therefore not a total "woodworking beginner". Any recommendations please? Thanks

    Flush it and catch it

On the built-in cabinet I'm currently approaching there will be two flush doors with "H" hinges. All good. However, I've just realised that the magnetic catches I have (normal type) will not work because they need to be screwed to the top of a cabinet. As the doors are flush and in the face of...

    Flat as a pancake

Cheers for that. It's good to know mine isn't an unusual problem. I've never seen such movement, is beech particularly prone to this?

Thank you. As I suspected, there are no shortcuts!

Bench top mortiser and pillar drill

Thanks all. I'm thinking that I want accuracy of cut for the mortices and so maybe a proper motriser is best. I could use one of those hand-held jobs as a cheap pillar? Are they ok? If I have to buy two I need a good deal. Any help on that please?

Bench top mortiser and pillar drill

Cheers both. As I don't have either at the moment is it best to get a mortiser and drill-ise it or a drill and mortiser-ise it?

    Flat as a pancake

I bought a rather expensive Sjoberg workbench two years ago. As I put in the last screw (self-assembly) I noticed a label saying that it had been stored in an environment of 40% humidity! Here in Cornwall the only place humidity is ever that low is in a pasty oven! Sure enough, the doors now...

Bench top mortiser and pillar drill

Is there such a thing as a combined bench top mortiser and pillar drill? Oooooh, I hope so! :P

    Hidden cupboard, crouching worktop

I love that spiling and am deffo going to do it! My situation is two-fold. The alcove has two sides that are irregular but smoothly so. Therefore, spiling is ideal. The back wall is irregular but it's erratic and varies over a small distance. That is, I have to do the spiling every couple of...
