Can anyone recommend a decent make of stepped drill bit?

Had a cheap step drill fail to do the job so bought one from UK Drills (bought through Amazon), who I've seen mentioned on here before, thinking it would be better quality but it's worse. I'm trying to drill some holes in 1mm steel to mount some speaker connectors. It drilled the first 2mm hole...

    125mm pad on a 150mm sander?

I’m looking at getting the Metabo 450XS RO sander as it’s much recommended on here. I was wondering if it’s possible to fit a 125mm pad such as this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Be-Your-Mind-Replacement-Accessories/dp/B0CDFR6LQB to it as I have a few packets of 125mm Norton sanding disks left...

How flat is a piece of glass?

Ok I hope this isn't too daft a question. I'm putting together my sharpening setup and amongst the things I need is the ability to flatten the base of a couple of old planes I inherited from my grandfather, a Stanley no.5 and an old wooden smoothing plane. The sole of the Stanley needs a lot of...

repairing a Stanley 73 brace, is this the wrong part?

Hi all, I have a Stanley 73 brace, a mark 3, that had a broken ratchet gear. I ordered a new one from km-wholesalesuppliers.co.uk who seem to be the only people carrying spares for it. Now that I have it, there's no hole in the ratchet for the pin to secure it to the brace. I can't find any...

    Update on those old grinders

Spent a bit of time in the workshop at last, took the old Wickes grinder apart, the wheels were rusted on to the spindles so I cleaned everything thoroughly, got rid of the rust on the spindles with emery paper and fitted a new coarse wheel and a stainless wire wheel. It's fairly well balanced...

Is this old grinder worth keeping?

Evening all. I've recently been given a couple of old grinders. The first, a Wickes model, is a very simple grinder. There's no guards on it, only very basic rests, it's fitted with an old grey wheel and a wire wheel, photo below. This will probably live out by the welder and just be kept for...

Need a fence for an old Meber bandsaw

A little while ago I picked up an old Meber bandsaw, it works well, although I'm still learning how to get it set up properly. I'd like to get a fence for it but it looks as thought I'd have to cut any fence that goes on the front due to how the blade is removed for changing. There's threaded...
