Mind made up, it's the DeWalt. Thanks guys.

    SIP website discounts!

Thanks. The DeWalt had been the one I had decided on until I found the SIP model whilst searching the web for good deals on the DW733. I would rather pay more for something that will give me the finish I want as £190 is not a bargain if the thing is no good.

Rip fence upgrade for Kity 419

Thanks for that link Wizer. I have the Kity 419 and have made my own extension table. Have been thinking about a "proper" full length fence for use with sheet materials for some time. The existing one is 1" thick mdf held with G cramps back and front. Another little job to add to the list.

    SIP website discounts!

Thanks for the input Wizer. I certainly want to have a good look at this thicknesser. By accident I have come across a Fox model that, apart from the colour, looks identical to the SIP model, same spec, everything. As I generally don't work in anything larger than 1/12th scale it is a...

    SIP website discounts!

What is the quality of SIP like? I had posted regarding the SIP 01335 thicknesser as it is on eBay for just under £190 including delivery. I have no experience with this brand; is it better than Clarke, Nu-Tool etc?

    SIP Thicknesser 01335

Has anyone got or used the SIP 01335 thicknesser or experience with SIP products for that matter? I am in the market for a thicknesser and after reading threads on 2 topics had just about settled on the DeWalt 733. The other possibility was the Delta 560 but this seems to have been...

    Magnifier

Having used both a headband magnifier and a magnilight, my preference is for the headband version. I can also recommend Ivan's suggestion of cheap reading glasses. I use a number of strengths in lieu of magnifiers for miniature work. There is the added advantage that it saves my prescription...

    Which Scroll Saw......Help !

Hi Frank, I was once treated to the delights of the type of beast in Alan's picture and have referred to it on another thread. It was in a school workshop where I was running a night class and although bolted down to a fixed bench that ran the length of the room, it felt as though it was...

Explains the likeness. Shame it didn't happen 12 years ago. It would have saved me some money.

    Which Scroll Saw......Help !

Interested in Alan- AKA The Woodman's comment "The Axminster is a blatant Hegner rip-off so doesn't make the list as a pure-bred in my book." Is it a rip-off or is it made by Hegner for Axminster? A friend who had tried my Hegner bought the AWFS18 on it looking very much like my machine...

    Bargain or problem?

As a regular user of a Hegner I have to agree with Alan. Whilst it is an excellent machine and has cut 1.1/2" thick oak as well as its more usual tasks associated with 24th scale furniture, it is overpriced. Blade changing is a real pain. I am interested in and not surprised by the comments re...

    Kity 419 Modification

Many thanks for the welcome and the help offered so far. I have some time set aside in a few weeks for some workshop improvements eg new roof so will look into the method used by Andy. It sounds reasonably straight forward and will be worth the effort if it allows me to keep the saw which, as I...

    Kity 419 Modification

I have a Kity 419 that has given unfailing service on a very regular basis over the last 6 to 7 years. The only real downside has been the wheel for the blade tilt. Why oh why weren't the teeth made of steel? This has been replaced once and the second one is now on its last legs as the teeth...
