    Zipper table saws?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experience of "Zipper" branded table saws, specifically this one: https://www.veistokone.fi/zipper-fks-25 ... kkeli.html My early Einhell table saw fell apart today while ripping some softwood, and I spent far too long fixing it. It's been a constant source...

Age of a trunk / chest

Just looking at it (the first one of course) again, I wonder what sort of wavy-jointer technique they used, and how the metalwork can be in such great shape after approximately 350 years. Also why the maker should have been so thoughtful in providing a date in neatly cut out 1600's rust free...

Age of a trunk / chest

While looking for interesting woodworking machines on the local version of ebay, I came across the following trunk, purportedly from 1682 and in remarkably good condition. I have a feeling however that I've seen more than one of these recently, and something about it just says "made in India...

I can tune a bandsaw blade

I'm very interested to try this experiment once I get back to my workshop next week. I have a Lidl tuner as well as a couple of different instrument tuning apps on my phone. My bandsawing experience is very limited as I've only just recently bought one. I've had excellent results cutting...

    Metabo bas261 bandsaw

Certainly, being sold in the UK it should certainly come with a proper UK plug. But an adapter could be a quick solution to get you started.

    Metabo bas261 bandsaw

That is indeed a normal standard euro plug, such as we use here in Finland. It also makes an earth connection via the edges of the plug / socket. Any normal EU-UK adapter should have these earth connections, the travel adapter I use when I visit the UK certainly does.

    tree lumber identification

Hmm, I'm not an expert - so this is just for the sake of discussion - but why couldn't it be Aspen? Going by the varieties we have in Finland I think Alder has smoother bark and discolours a deep yellowy red where it is cut fresh. Aspen: http://www.vastavalo.fi/haapa-puu-lehti ... 32408.html

    .........

I've just had a look and on the back of the box it says that the switching capacity is 3680W. I bought mine yesterday; one is now on my 1.5kW chip extractor, and the other on a 1.3kW 'shop vac' so well within capacity for my use, anyway - and according to my (notoriously poor) maths, well...

    Record BS350 Bandsaw Wheelkit

I bought nice strong wheels from Bauhaus - two fixed ones for the back and two locking casters of the same size (approx. 70mm dia.) for the front. They were about 5€ each overall IIRC with the casters being a little more and the fixed wheels a little less. Yesterday I finally got around to...

Scroll saw - Rexon to Proxxon, any point?

Funny you should mention that :) I have been keeping an eye on a Hegner Multicut SE for sale here in Finland, the asking price is 540e though and I really can't justify that much. I went to look at my friend's Proxxon and decided that it really didn't offer anything extra that I need. I do...

Scroll saw - Rexon to Proxxon, any point?

Hi, I've just been offered a Proxxon DSH scroll saw for 100€. My existing scroll saw is a Rexon SS4000 BQ. I use this for the fiddlier and wibblier bits of general woodworking. I'm not in to intarsia or anything like that, and so far my current machine has done everything that I want of it...

Just as an update, I'm back from work now and the first thing I did was install the guide bearing upgrade, which was here waiting for me. Initial impressions are very positive :D

Why is it I never have the right drill bit?

This reminds me of the time when I returned from a work trip to find that almost all my drills between approximately 5mm and 7mm had been destroyed. SWMBO had wanted to put some shelves up in the barn (her horse stables, which has brick walls). She had melted all my HSS and wood drills and...
