Renovation of Notturno Intarsio Italian Game table

Hi all, thanks for the replies. Firstly I wasn't going to try and do it myself, I would ruin it :( I think initially I'm going to run with Custard's suggestion and haul it over to a Ripley dealer and get an opinion. It's not large - 30" square and I drive is a small Renault van, so not a...

Renovation of Notturno Intarsio Italian Game table

Hi everyone, sorry, long time since I was around _ I'm hoping to semi-retire after Christmas soyou'll probably hear more from me, but I thought people may be interested in this table. The story behind it: My Dad (who was a cabinet maker/Joiner bought this table in the early/mid seventies. He saw...

    Record-Marples 04 1/2 hybrid hand plane

The boot sales are back on :) and I picked this rusty battered object up for 50p today :). This will be my second attempt hand-plane restoration or as I prefer "making something usable again" The first one...

Great piece of film. Thanks. I wonder if he used a 2000 or 4000 grit stone sharpening that axe?! :)

Smart Meters. Anyone had one installed? Smart Thermostats?

As far as I can see so far smart meters are not much better than the older stand alone energy usage monitors. I want a smart meter that can tell me when it is cheapest to run my washing machine, dishwasher, have a shower heat the water etc. Better than that I want it to actually turn on the...

ebay and Etsy Shops. Anyone have one?

Just to add, unless there is a huge profit margin Ebay is not a place to sell any quantity of goods if you want to remain sane. The pressure is always on not to lose those ratings. That's in the face of (mostly) hopeless couriers/blatanly over priced post office added to (some) blatantly...

    Losing weight

    > It's easier than giving up smoking. I really hope so, 'coz when I get over smoking I'm going to have to lose the weight I'm putting on giving it up! Boredom/finger fiddling eating is a big problem. Four months over of "cold turkey" without a cigarette after nearly 50 years as a 20/30/40 a...

In conclusion I put an extra hinge on it. It looks fine now when it is closed. Thanks to katellwood for the suggestion.

Can you become an apprentice later in life?

Then you won't suceed. I seriously went the other way from a construction job to computing. I was 29. At your/that age you have to be serious it was very hard work. I am just trying to wind the computing side down and get back to working with my hands again. At 63! :) you are never too old!

    Drill bit storage

Yes. Very nice but it will not stay like that, will it? It never does. Very soon one of the nicely sized "cups" will be empty and you will wonder, what did I do with them all. Anyway, the best way is to sort out all the ice cream containers in to smaller ones that contain as far as possible one...

    How long to leave it

It was on its hinges on the door door frame. So I know it came like that. As I said I was going to live with it then thought again today that I mght be able to straighten it.

Best shop vac for up to £100.00

Well my Karcher work wells for what I do. I like the power tool socket that starts and stops it. I paid an awful lot less than that screwfix price - a smidgeon under £80 plus it incuded this: https://www.kaercher.com/uk/accessory/v ... 31120.html The power tool adapter kit.

    How long to leave it

Now that's an idea, yes I could do that. Might be fun getting it on, on the other hand if I can even temporarily get the bow out while I get the hinges on it would make life easier. Thanks.

    How long to leave it

    > Collect or deliver. I collected it and it was over a month probably 6 weeks ago. I was going to "live with it" so I have also done the knotting and primer. Then what with Christmas etc. etc. I didn't get to finish the painting. But today looking at it I decided I would try and straighten it...

    How long to leave it

I have a door new from (ahem) Wickes. Solid pine/whitewood. After I had cut it down, added hinges and offered it up to the frame, I realised it has a 1/4-3/8" bow in in it. Looks awful. So I have laid it out and added weight to bow it in the opposite direction about the same amount. Question...

Cutting a small slot in wood.

Coming back to this, I think the big question is "how many slots do you need to make?"

Going by your sketch I would buy a saw with a 1.6mm blade (including set) :)
