Are Festool Router (and tools) really worth the money?

That's the way I usually go as well when I am buying something that I don't have much experience with. Get a cheaper one for now and see how it goes. You might even get lucky and it will last you more than a more expensive one would. After you get some more experience, you can decide if it's...

Should I Worry About My Vacuum Overheating In Its New Home?

All vacuums make noise, indeed, but some are more tolerable than others. The electrolux ones seem to be quieter http://www.vacuumsguide.com/quiet-vacuum-cleaners/

Should I Worry About My Vacuum Overheating In Its New Home?

Just as everyone already said, Yes, you are risking setting everything on fire. You would need a big whole in the box for the air to circulate. Wouldn't it have been less expensive to just buy a new vacuum (a less noisier one)?

    Keyboard

If you are serious about it, get a good keyboard from the beginning. Roland ones are good.

    60th wedding anniversary

=D> 60 years?! You must have been a lucky man for finding someone that you can live with for so long, John. Congratulations are definitely in order!

    It's official - I live in a pig-sty!

I'm surprised there's no smell in the house. There was a pigsty in a neighbouring village where I used to live and you could feel the smell from miles (depended on the direction of the wind as well).

    Dealing with woodworm

Also, make sure there are no larvae beside the worms and never treat firewood with pesticides. The majority of common firewood insects won't be affected and then it might become a health hazard for you.

DiscoStu. there's a Poll at the beginning of this thread. You can vote there.

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

That would be preferable. The thing is that unless this is proposed to the government, there's nothing that we can do. Also, I created this poll only out of curiosity.

What would you do with these?

You could make a ladder with them. Use some nice rope and then you can use it in various places. If you have kids and a big tree, you could build a house tree and use those as a ladder (it might not be very safe, but if your kids are old enough, you could surprise them with this). Also, if you...

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

Just to announce the results of the vote: The ukworkshop community says NO to having another bank holiday (63% of people voted NO) (I realise that this generalisation is quite over the top, but those were the votes and we can't dispute them, can we? :) ) (hammer)

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

That's the spirit! (hammer) Based on everyone's comments, I am guessing there are pros and cons and it depends on your role as an employer or an employee.

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

yes Graham, but being self-employed means that you can take a holiday whenever you want (in limits of course, so your business can carry on). For employees it's more difficult to do.

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

Understandable. It would be difficult for the managers to make the schedule, but what about the employees? I am a pro work man myself and I believe in hard work, but in order for the employees to work hard, they need to be happy and have enough energy. Maybe an extra day off will help with this?

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

:D It is difficult to be an employer too :) I didn't even realise that this is a leap year until this morning when I read an article about it and I was curious what other people think about this. To be honest, I was expecting more people to be pro the bank holiday.

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

It would be great if every employer would think like this. I read an article some time ago about how happier employees increase the productivity of a firm. They made a study and showed how allowing employees to bring their pets once a week at work made them happier and this increased the...

That's a way to look at it, but I really hope that's not a popular opinion. :D

29.02.2016 - leap year - should this day be a bank holiday?

This is the thing: Today is the 29th of february. Every 4 years there is an additional day added at the end of this month. This day is an extra day of work which is not paid for. There is a campaign to make February 29th a bank holiday. What do you think? Should it be a bank holiday day, or...
