    New Wooden Handled Screwdrivers

I have been using an old set of Stanley type C screwdrivers (the black handled ones) for sometime now and while they are great i could do with longer narrower handled ones more suited to engineering. Gathering the engineering type of these Stanley ones second hand would take ages as they aren’t...

How to make an Oil Can? Like Kayes, Braimes, etc

Does anyone know how the old oil cans were made? I assume they are made from multiple pressed plates, but its not clear how these were attached together. The old kayes ones in particular look far to neat to be any method of welding or brazing I am aware of.

    Triumph Mortiser Restoration

I found this amongst piles of junk on a yard on the railway. After talking with the boss i was able to bring it over to BL for restoration :D I think was made by Wilson Brothers of Leeds, possibly dating from the 1940s? First thing first, stripping it down. Removed all the parts...

The Absolutely Best Finish on Brass & Steel

After going down through the grits (to 1200 most of the time) I am wondering if there is anything better than brasso for getting a really good final finish? I am aware of putty like “Peak” which I think gives an equivalent finish but not better; theres also that better version of brasso “Carr...

    Adjustable vs Fixed Spanners

I have found it not uncommon to be advised to not use adjustable spanners, even to the point of it being considered unprofessional to use them… but I still think adjustables are superior for most situations. Here’s why: They fit tighter on the nut: This is a common stated weakness of...

    Engineering Toolboxes

I am thinking of investing in a draw toolbox for engineering tools (micrometres, taps, files, etc). I have had some expierence with a sealey one and think the quality of that was a bit wanting (though certainly not awful), particularly considering how expensive these things are. Mainly I want...

    Moving Large Machines

I am going to have to move my 907kg milling machine at some point. I know methods of moving it, but I lack any of the equipment to do it (most critically a trailer). I was wondering if there is such thing as companies who I could pay to do it for me? If so any recommendations?
