Garden table and chairs ideas, plans?

Missus wants a new garden table and chairs set and has quoted frighteningly high prices to me of buying a set in. As I don't want cheap metal crappy stuff, and would prefer something in a nice hardwood, I'm scouting for suitable ideas and preferably plans. Any ideas guys?

    Workshop Essentials DVDs

    Fine Woodworking magazine

As a slight aside, I went into Smiths today to pick up a Woodwork mag....what a dissappointment. They had just three titles plus the Woodturning mag. Each magazine was a shadow of what I remember from just a few years ago. Its a lot easier to buy to a soft porn mag these days than it is a...

    Help - my quill's stuck!!

Its not so much a grub screw as a pin that looks set into the tailstock. I dont think I can remove it easily. I tried pushing it in as I wound it back, but it still sticks after a few turns :(

    Help - my quill's stuck!!

I've a problem with my Nova Lathe. I wound the tailstock quill out further than I intended and it came out. I inserted it back in and wound it back, but it only turns a few times then sticks. Any suggestions? Please......

    Solar Power for the Workshop??

Thanks for the debate guys, BUT the title of the thread is "Solar Power for the Workshop" You wanna debate the pros/cons of Global Warming - go start a thread. My over-riding thoughts behind my question is 'can I make it work'. Nothing to do with Saving the Planet, Saving Money...

    Solar Power for the Workshop??

That's what I thought at first, however from my primitive understanding it is Load (Watts) ÷ Voltage (Volts) = Current (Amps) Current x Time (Hrs) = Capacity needed (Ah) Then add 25% on to Ah Capacity for reserve. So, to power my 2hp lathe for a couple of hours 1500w/12v= 125 A 125A x...

    Solar Power for the Workshop??

I am preparing for my new workshop and got thinking about the electrics. As the workshop will be some distance from the house, I got to wondering if Solar Power is feasable for workshop use. I know it will be ok for lighting and for the smaller power tools, but I do have a few toys that take...

    Dating Spear and Jackson

O/T to the main point of the thread, but as background Spear & Jackson were very much a British Company. The company first took shape as far back as 1650'ish, making agricultural tools. The Disston connection came about because Spear & Jackson were in protracted discussions to buy the saws...

    Solid Wood flooring

I checked out the Kahrs at flooringsupplies.co.uk, and the prices seem very reasonable. So I requested a couple of samples and they came today. One was a Satin finish, the other Oil finish. When I took them out of the jiffy bags you could smell the oak right away. I must admit I am impressed -...
