    Sharing hand tools

Can hand tools ever have more than one master? I don't mind sharing powered tools, except those that require a lot of fettling, but chisel and planes? ? I am being forced to share company owned tools with a right wrecker at the moment and its making my blood boil. Every time he walks off with...

    San Francisco Balcony

Terrible tragedy in San Francisco. The Daily Mail's website carries quite detailed pictures of the failed balcony, which looks to be based on projecting timber joists. Does anyone with more knowledge than me have an opinion on what might have caused this awful event?

    How much?

A fighter jet crashes in a farmer's field. As one would expect, the cost to replace the plane is pretty eye-watering, but not as staggering as the clean up bill. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-31459574 How can this be? Did they replace the entire field? To a depth of 5 metres...

    small self taping screws

Hi All, I have an up-coming project which will involve fixing some plastic trim to some flat aluminium bars. The trim is a 2 piece H joint extrusion, see link http://www.tubewayextrusions.com/plastic-h-section.html The base thickness is about 1.5 mm, and as it is going to be load bearing, I...

    Dewalt DWS520 plunge saw problem

For sometime now I had been noticing that the black splinter-strips on our workshop saw tracks have been getting thinner and thinner. A more detailed examination revealed that there was a lot of play when the saw was mounted on the rail, but relocking the widgets that cancel the play only pulled...

    Bic Biro

I watched one of those How Do They Do It? programs last night on Quest, featuring the manufacturing process for Bic Biros. Fascinating stuff, and a lot more involved than one might have first anticipated.

    How Much?

A mate of mine has made me four window bars out of steel, each measuring 27 inches by 1/2 inch, with a simple bracket welded on each end. He says he won't take any money but I want to pay a fair price for the work. Can anyone give me an idea of what the rate would be for the aforementioned...

    Birch Plywood 18mm

Does anyone have any 18mm birch ply for sale up North Essex way? The decent stuff is what I'm after - 9 lamination including the face veneers. I seem to remember Ridgeons might have stocked it once. Or if anyone has any off-cuts they want to sell... Cheers.

    fine detail sanding

I just finished routing a sign for my nieces new play- house (a first attempt at sign making) and there are a few roughish areas within the routed grooves that are tricky to sand. Out of interest I googled around for a bit and found these people http://www.shesto.co.uk Has anyone got any of...

    Turbot

Does anyone here eat turbot on a regular basis? I've not had it before and I'd like to taste it. Is it any good? Where can it be bought? What does it cost? Should I batter it? Will it bite me if I do?

    Presents

I received a set of Flex Cut carving tools for Xmas, and they look like a pretty handy bunch too. I couldn't help myself, and got straight down to an impromptu abstract on the underside of the dining room table, getting myself a nasty cut in the process. Ahh, Christmas... a happy time... Anyway...

    Do wax polish rags combust?

Hi, I've often visited these forums in the past and learnt a lot from them, but this is my first post. I have read that rags with finishing oil can combust under certain circumstances. I use a lot of Fiddes Supreme Wax Polish. Is the same true of this?
