    Ceramic Waterstones

There was a bit of talk lately on here about the works sharp 3000, but I still like my setup of buff with pink or white wheel, and then onto a fine diamond stone followed by a rub on a 6000 waterstone. I am not overly happy with the fine diamond stone and started using the King 800 grit...

    Acrylic Eggshell

Has anyone had good success painting MDF with acrylic eggshell? The plan was actually to spray the MR MDF cabinet, but it needed thinned to much to spray in a hvlp gun with a 1.9mm tip setup, so I'm going back to the roller and brush. I will add some water and Floetrol to see if it will extent...

    Compound angle dovetails?

Hi all, Is it possible to use dovetails on the corners of a box with shallow compound angles, ie all 4 sides tapering in? I know it can be done using 2 tapered sides and adjusting the angle of the actual dovetails to help with the short grain. Any solutions or tips greatly appreciated. Philip

    Birch Plywood Blade

Hi, How much benefit is there in using a Freud/Cmt 80 tooth ATB blade over a 40 tooth ATB blade when cutting Birch Ply. Also Has anyone used Wealden saw blades, as there is not much difference in price compared to Freud/Cmt. Thanks in advance Philip

    Titebond 3

I have just bought a bottle of this for making a wash basin cabinet. I normally use Cascamite or Titebond Original but liked the sound of the extended working time and lower temperature curing without the mixing. The results were good on the gluing front doing all it claimed but the colour of...

    Infill planes

Hi, can anyone point me to any info on building Norris style planes. I know you can buy the kits from various places but I would prefer to build from scratch. The outline sizes for sides, sole, mouth position etc. or any info on book titles with info/shapes or sizes would be a great help...

    Pre-cat lacquers

Are there any pre-cat lacquers which can be padded or brushed on or do the best results come from spraying. Also what nozzle size do the manufacturers recommend for pre-cat lacquers in conversion guns. Any info would be great. Thanks Philip

    Sip Tablesaw

I've been looking at saws for a while now, and the SIP Tablesaw always seems to be on the list. It's had good reviews in the mags, for what these are worth, and looks to have a nice add on sliding table. I have viewed the saw locally but it was just removed from the box and not set up right. I...

    Axminster Vices

Has anyone used the green 9" quick release vices that Axmister sell, and if so what are they like in regards to general quality compared to the Record, as I read some where that the fully automatic versions are well made but not very user friendly. Thanks for any help. Philip

    Workshop Heater

Hi all, This warm weather has prompted me to replace the flue on the workshop stove. It's a Relax 3 and originally I used their galvanized flue, but there are that many holes in it now, the fire probably burn :( I only got about 2 years out of that flue and would prefer an alternative to what...

    Glue

Hi, Has anyone ever tried to glue the UHMW plastic to plywood and if so what glue worked best. Also on a similar note what would be the best glue for fabricating vacuum bags from vinyl. Any thoughts? Philip

    Tablesaws

After reading the posts lately about new tablesaws it has prompted me to view a couple. I have looked at the Fox with sliding carriage and the Sip with cast iron top. Not much more over here in Northern Ireland to look at apart from the Jet and Scheppach models which are probably outside my...

    Anant

Hi, I have been trying to buy a Stanley no. 7 jointer for some time now of ebay and local ads but they go at about £50 to £60 with delivery which I feel is a tad to much when you cannot check the plane. I do not envisage this plane getting a great amount of work, so cannot justify a clifton...

    Freud ft2000vce

I use this router in a table, but yesterday it was running very erratic, eventually losing the speed control and now only running at about 1/2 speed with an unpleasant burning smell and becoming very hot :( It's about 2 years old with not much work. If anybody has had a similar problem with...

    Morticers

Hi all, I've been thinking about buying a morticer for some time now but do not know if it will better/quicken than how I make them at present using a horizontal router table with a 1/2" solid carbide slot drill. I get very clean mortices but have to square out the ends. So really I am asking if...
