Rookie Attempt at Veneering A Pair Of Speakers.

Hi, Absolutely brilliant veneering job. As one with limited veneering success, I'm envious of this quality as a first attempt. Hi Eric, I had a pair of LS-3s for many years, brilliant speakers, I reluctantly had to sell them when I moved into a very small flat, always regretted it. Steve

    Renovating old Loudspeakers

Hi, Whilst getting away from the topic, yes, crossovers already out and away for "re-capping" all I will do myself is replace the internal wiring and connectors and do the cabinet work I first heard a pair of IMF transmission line speakers at a hi fi show when I was a lad (1970s), I was...

    Renovating old Loudspeakers

Thanks for the replies lads, very interesting. Hi Bugbear, I also downloaded the pdf from the IMF website, the sole source of my information regarding likely finishes. The Restor a Finish looks most promising as it requires the least skill (which suits me), I’ll see if I can get hold of some...

    Renovating old Loudspeakers

Hi, I have a pair of old but much loved loudspeakers from around 1990, made by a British company called TDL which unfortunately no longer exists. I have owned them for around 12 years now and have decided to upgrade them (since a new pair of equivalent spec speakers would run out at >5k). I am...

    Solid wood floating shelves

Hi, I have also used the fixings shown by Sawdust. These units have a screw threaded section for insertion in a standard rawl type plug and a knurled outer section, the two are very slightly epicyclic (slightly off the same axis). The small section between the threads and the knurled area has a...

Mounting a Makita 2300F on a Router Table

Hi, I have a Makita 2300F router which is a pretty hefty unit. I bought this for the extra power to use in a router table. I have just started to mount the unit on the plate and find that the mounting bolts are 15mm long M4s. Does anybody have experience of this size bolt, in this...

    Concrete problem ?!!!

Hi Paul, You must remember that correctly designed and mixed concrete does not "dry out" as such. The water in concrete is there to hydrate the cement , if water is lost from the surface the cement in the mix will not be fully hydrated and will remain as simply a sand cement paste at best...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Hi, Thanks for the kind comments praise indeed! Benchwayze, I too have "old eyes" and remember the old wooden Meccano boxes, never had one myself, but a few more drawers and I do see your point. Devonwoody, you are spot on, this type of intricate work (inlaying, half blind dovetails on...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Hi, Thought I'd post a couple of pictures of a jewelry box I made for my wifes' birthday. I have never made anything like this before, most of my projects are small pieces of furniture, so I was in very unfamiliar territory! The box is African mahogany with maple internals, finish is blonde...

    Floating Solid Wood Shelves

Hi, Glynne is correct, the fixings I have used have a standard threaded section for insertion in a standard rawl type plug and a knurled outer section, the two are very slightly epicyclic.(slightly off the same axis) The small section between the threads and the knurled area has a hexagon shape...

    Box Dimensions

Hi, The size will be 350 x 250 x 175mm (w x d x h) This is a bit bigger than I had originally intended, but it has been approved and a space already allocated on top of a chest of drawers! So best get on with it! Thanks for the help. Cheers Steve

    Box Dimensions

Thanks Lads, Well, to be perfectly honest, I'm still unsure! I did the golden ratio thing and well, the box looked flatter than I had imagined (in my head). Marcros gave me the solution, some origami with newspaper, which after a few attempts has given me what looks OK (to me!) just need...

    Box Dimensions

Hi I'm pretty new on here so be gentle! I have been commissioned (SWMBO) to make a jewelry box for a forthcoming birthday. I have been looking around the forum and web for ideas and have a basic design in my head. My question; is there be a dimension ratio (width to height to depth) which...

    Louisiana Creole Table

Hi Steve, Very nice job. What finish did you use to maintain the wood colour? I have a project in mind for a small table and have some red meranti available, I have quite often been disappointed by a finish not ending up the colour I had intended!! cheers Steve
