    Hello All!

Sorry it's been so so long since I've last posted! Not sure many of you we remember me, but I used to post on the website regularly and I'm hoping to do so again! I've had my head down studying, I've finally finished training at BCUC, and am working as a cabinet maker at Williams and...

Which lathe? Axminster M900 or the FOX F46-719 ?

Good idea Mark! I'll try contacting Terry tomorrow! Does anyone on this site own a fox lathes that could tell me what they think of the quality? Or does anyone know if any Fox lathes have been reviewed in any magazines lately? Thanks again all! Nads :D

    Is it just me??

I have to agree with Philly I would also recommend the veritas shave, I've just been smoothing some back feet of a chair cut out with a bandsaw and I was really impressed with the vertias’ performance. I find that the flat soled shave deals with most things but a round soled shave is better for...

Which lathe? Axminster M900 or the FOX F46-719 ?

Thanks for your comments guys! I agree, on paper the Fox does look the better buy! But I was just a bit worried about all this badge engineering – the fox’s spec just seems very good, a bit too good for £300, compared to similar machines in that price range. I was just wondering if anyones...

Which lathe? Axminster M900 or the FOX F46-719 ?

I am looking for a new lathe to do a mixture of spindle work and face plate stuff - bowls, platters etc. I was all set to buy an Axminster M900, as I’ve heard it is a good beginner/intermediate lathe, until I saw the new FOX F46-719 (http://www.poolewood.co.uk/acatalog/Poo ... _2007.html...

    bandsaw advice!

Yeah the bandsaw blade is the right way, good idea tho! I'm not sure how to post pics and don't own a digital camera. The cut surface is far rougher than the surface produced by my college bandsaws (I do realise that they have far better machines, that will produce better results)...

    bandsaw advice!

Thanks for your replies guys! :) joekid - I'm only cutting 20mm of oak, and my BS350X should cut up to 230mm. More teeth, didn't think of that? The blade I'm using is a 1/2 inch 6TPI balde which I was advice was for general use?! :? The real reason I posted this question was because the...

    bandsaw advice!

I brought a Record BS350X bandsaw a while back and have only just got a chance to set it up and buy some decent blades (Hamilton edge) for it! I was using it to cut some 20mm oak x-cut & rip with a 6TPI skip tooth blade, and was surprised by the poor finish of the cut surface  I realise...

Thanks for your replies guys, loads of good ideas! I've have to try a few of yours tips! I've got some heatshrink in the garage but didn't think of using that, so I'll give that a try first! Thanks again :) Nads

    Protective covers for mortise chisels?

Funny request I know, but does anyone know where I can buy plastic protective covers for mortise chisels? :? As I know you can buy them at lots of places for bevel edge chisels. Or does anyone have any good ideas for what I can use a protective cover, as the edges are cutting through the...

Where can I buy a india Slipstone?

I have just given some tools from a friend who’s granddad sadly pasted away :( Some old chisels, screwdrivers and a few bits and pieces. But also a fairly new Spear & Jackson dovetail saws. I had a go with the saw but it seems to track in a curve to the left. So I asked my dad to have a...

    Primary Bevel angle.............diamond stones???

Thanks everyone for all your comments! Well firstly to answer a few of your questions, I already only hone my secondary bevel a very small amount (about quarter of a mm) and normally re-hone my primary bevel about every 4 hones of my secondary bevel, so I am glad to hear I'm doing something...

    Primary Bevel angle.............diamond stones???

Just have a few questions for you guys about re-establishing the primary bevel angle once the secondary bevel has got too big? Firstly, how big do you let the secondary bevel get before regrinding the primary bevel, or how many times do can you re-hone the blade before restoring the primary...

Philly, I’m interested in coming, as it’s clear I could learn a great deal from you guys, but it’s a bit of a drive…….1 ¾ hours (I live near Heathrow)? Is the day open to everyone, or just you long term members? Sorry to be a pain, but can I let you know a bit closer to the event...

Victor Socket Chisels or Kirschen 1101 Bevel Edge Chisels?

Thanks everyone for all your advice, I’ve just got back for holiday, and was hoping for a few replies, but 7 pages worth  , that took me a while to read! I’m still a little confused, I just want to get myself a decent set of chisels which will hopefully last me a long time! I...

Victor Socket Chisels or Kirschen 1101 Bevel Edge Chisels?

Yeah Alf I was very surprised to see the victor chisels on the list too? I read the discussions on the forum about victor range too, and agreed that £150 seemed steep, I was just wondering if anyone know any more!? :? I must omit going on appearances alone I don’t really like the look of...

Victor Socket Chisels or Kirschen 1101 Bevel Edge Chisels?

I am about to start a HND in Furniture Studies at Uni in September and have just been given my final tool list, but as I have been doing woodwork for about a year now I already have most of the stuff on the list, if not better stuff, thanks to the great advise from this forum. However one think...
