    Collar for Holdfast

Hi all Does anyone know if the collar sold by Axminster tools for their bench holdfast, is compatible with the Record 145? I contacted Axminster, and was told they do not stock Record holdfasts. Not a lot of help. Cheers. John

    Lubrication for ML 8

I guess the difference is that the ML 8 is for woodturning, so I can get away with less viscous oil ?

    Lubrication for ML 8

Hi all I've been using ATF for my Myford ML 8 lubrication for the last few years. Do other users of this lathe think the viscocity of this fluid is sufficient. If not. What would they recommend? Cheers vomog

Oak bowl treated with vinegar & wirewool

Would this treatment be safe on a bowl to be used as a Mortar i.e with a pestle? And if it is: Would sealing it with Shellac make it food-safe?

    Cracks on bowl

Thanks for your replies. It is in fact hollow, with about 1/4 in walls. Didn't want to go any further for the reasons you state. John

    Cracks on bowl

Do you experienced wood turners ever persevere with cracks from badly dried timber? This piece of Walnut would have been too small to work with if I had cut out all the cracks. Just wondering if there is a trick( other than binning) that I can use to salvage this piece?

    Unknown tool

That would make sense if the Auger guide was adjustable like the tail-stock. But there is no means of adjustment with the tool inserted. Thank anyway.

    Unknown tool

Can anyone tell me what they think this tool might be used for? It came with the ML8 I inherited. It has a double cutting edge on the other side. It sseems to sit in the 3/8 slot on the Shell auger steady. Cheers

    Old band-saw blades.

Does anyone have any ingenious uses for old band-saw blades? I have accumulated several blunt blades( I chuck nothing) and feel they must have a use.

    Recovering rotten/wet wood?

I always use "Lakeone" Old wood stabilizer. Not easy to find, but W S Jenkins do it I think. Just make sure the wood's dry first.

    Sharpening tools using a grinder.

That makes sense!! Just didn't understand why use a 50mm belt on a 150mm bed.
