Hi Jimi,
I used MDF mainly because I had some and it's as cheap as chips. Again I used ordinary white wood glue mainly because I had some beside me and that's as cheap as chips as well. I even used cheap cards from Tesco's. Can you see a theme devloping here?
Never say never Bryan, you may surprise yourself and do a craft fair after all. Mine was just a very little affair linked to a local toddler group. As for only grandsons well your family name will continue and the benefit of grandchildren, girls or boys, is that as grandparents we can pick and...
A bit of both really, I'd made lots of pens on the lathe and some keyrings and other trinkets on the scrollsaw so I thought I'd see if anyone would pay me real money for them. I had about three weeks cutting to increase the stock and then just went for it.
I know what you mean Bryan, and MDF does get very poor press but in this instance I think it works perfectly. It's cheap as chips, dimensionally stable and there are no horrible splinters which you can tend to get with birch ply unless you are very particular about sanding.
I had a play in the shed with some cards I pinched off the table while my wife was busy writing all our Christmas cards.
I cut them down the fold and glued the fronts to the 3mm MDF. Drilled an entry hole and cut out the centre section in one piece. I gave the back of the pieces a quick...
Hi Bryan, I love making thing to pay for wood rather than just using cash. When you were given your wood did you have to run the gauntlet of "I've given you wood" double entendre's.
It's nice to be on a UK based forum as most of the scrollsaw forums are American. Maybe this should be called The...
Thanks for the lovely comments. Steve Goods program is a free download but you can, and I did, contribute to his site. I must have made a nearly a hundred of these keyrings and if I've sold them I charge £2 per letter.
These are some keyrings I made from some Mahogany given to me by someone I have never met and delivered to me by two other people who I have never met.
I have a VW campervan and the VW forum i am a member of is a very friendly place and lots of us meet up for camping or impromptu days out. Lots...
Those paints look good, if a little expensive but the dyes look like a good solution apart from not knowing what to dip them in to seal the colour in.
I tried to put a photo up but it said the file size was too big
Hi all, this is my first post on here but from what I've seen it's a knowledgeable crowd so I expect I'll get some good answers to my problem
I've started making tray type jigsaw puzzles for kids using the letters of their name. I've tried child safe acrylic paint but some of the colours are a...
