    Claddagh Plaque

=D> I think that a commemorative plaque has to be beyond reproach for it to be worthwhile. This one certainly fits the bill. An interesting font and meticulously produced. Well done Brendan. Peter

    Suggest a Scroll-saw book ?

Hi Cordy I have three books by Diana Thompson on my shelves. They are:- 3D Patterns for the Scroll Saw Compound Christmas Ornaments for the Scroll Saw Wooden Chess Sets You can Make They are all exclusively 3D projects by a designer who specialises in compound patterns. There is nothing too...

New Hegner, Workshop Tidy Up & Extraction

What an excellent workshop. I am seriously envious too.   I prefer the tidy end. :D

    Hegner dust extraction

I was impressed by the efficiency of the brush setup in the video showing the router. It would be good to get such a system installed for a fretsaw but I see no way of achieving it. Having come back to scrollsaw work after a very long absence dust seems a bigger problem to me than when I was...

    Hegner dust extraction

Interesting post. :D My Excalbur has a worse than useless dust collection system. It seems to do nothing at all! My Diamond uses a collection bin below the table (which collects dust) but is primitive. My first saw, a Hegner had a similar system to the modern machines but seemed less than...

    Excalibur EX-21

Table marks very easily but lines are superficial. Mine has "scratches" in it already which can only be due to rotation and movement of workpiece. Looks a bit odd but not a reason not buy it. I think I will put a plywood table over the top.

    Excalibur EX-21

Hi Pete I've had one for a fortnight! Seems well made and is very quiet. Very little vibration, easy to follow lines on patterns and requires very little physical activity for me to change blades. As to reliability, I have no idea at all and I'm waiting to see what happens. Mine will get light...

    Dremel/Parkside Attachments Lidl

Just bought some Lidl mini-drill attachments myself. I'm starting to think I may be easily-led. :D

    face mask no response

I agree with this..loud too; but it is useful if you wear glasses. I use it if I feel I have to saw MDF(under duress) and for hardwoods. Regards

    face mask no response

I use an ancient Trend Airshield which completely covers my head. It is bulky and getting filters is not as easy as it once was but it works. I have a Microclene shed filter which removes dust from the air and a Record shop vacuum. It is very efficient but the teenage neighbours pop round...

Removing a paper pattern from the cut piece

Removing paper patterns and residual glue can be a nuisance particularly on delicate fretwork. I try to avoid the problem in the first place. I prepare the wood and then wrap it carefully with either sellotape (clear tape) or blue masking tape (if I can get it). Then I apply the pattern using...

    What do you think

I agree with this. Setting up as a beginner can be a different experience in the UK. Saw availability, saw label (fretsaw/scrollsaw) differently named products(a recent thread here mentions mineral oil), finding good quality wood, very American YouTube videos; the list is lengthy. A new book...

    Struggling with Blade Tensioning

Heh Heh. Sounds like an excellent idea. Busy negotiating with my son's agent.
