Planer thicknesser technique - flattening boards

Hi Sunnybob. Snipe seems to be extremely sensitive to knife height adjustment on my machine, but once I've taken the time to fine-tune this adjustment I don't really see any. I have seen it a couple of times but, so far, have always been able to adjust it out.

Planer thicknesser technique - flattening boards

Thanks for all the help guys. I've managed to get this board flat now, mainly through handplaning. Once it was sitting reasonably flat I ran it over the surface planer a couple of times to finish it off. Out of interest, you've all said 350mm is significantly shorter than you'd use a surface...

Planer thicknesser technique - flattening boards

Thanks very much for the tips. I'll try passing more through before putting pressure on the outfeed table. In this case, as I've already tried flipping the board over and turning it round, I don't have a bow as such. It's just thicker in the middle now than at the edges, with both faces being...

Planer thicknesser technique - flattening boards

Hi all, I've been trying to flatten some boards today on my planer/thicknesser (a Record PT260X) and have been having some troubles. I'm finding that the boards are forming quite a severe wedge shape. The leading edge seems to be being planed at a bit of an angle, so when I put pressure on it...

    Planer/Thicknesser Advice

Thanks so much for all the advice guys, really useful! Thanks for the offer of trying out your machine Hemsby. I've had a quick look and I'm not sure if the 260K is a slightly higher spec machine than the 260C? There doesn't seem to be much info I can find but the one website I did find selling...

    Planer/Thicknesser Advice

Thanks for the advice Deema. Unfortunately I'm not sure that a 2nd hand machine like a Wadkin is really an option. I've only got single phase and don't fancy converting to three phase, plus the majority of the machines are pretty bulky and I'm very limited on space as I'm using a standard single...

    Planer/Thicknesser Advice

Hi, I know there seem to be a million and one threads about which planer thicknesser to buy, but I'm struggling to find many specific details of any. I'm currently sorting out my workshop and intend on buying a planer thicknesser in about a month when everything will hopefully be ready. It'll...

3 stage 3 speed workshop air filter WIP

I've been inspired by this to carry out a very similar project. I'm got myself a pre-filter from Axminster for £8 which is a spare part for one of their own air filter models as well as a large car air filter and cabin pollen filter from Halfords (which cost £11 for the both of them after I...

    Home-made router table

Well having procrastinated rather a lot I have finally got round to (almost) finishing this off. Here's a few photos. Workbench with fence mounted. Several angle brackets bought from Screwfix used to fix the short rail from my TS200 tablesaw (now replaced on the saw with the long rail that...

Small garage workshop - dust extraction

Looks like a good idea. I'll have to look into doing something similar when I have the time. I've decided to opt for the Trend T30af for now as it's a fair bit more versatile. If I move to a bigger place and can therefore fit in some more machinery then I'll probably add a larger extractor...

Small garage workshop - dust extraction

Thanks very much for all of the advice guys. I've been doing a bit more research and am currently considering either the Record DX1000 or the Trend T30af. The DX1000 has the advantage of the larger diameter hose (which would fit straight onto my table saw) as well as being cheaper, although I...

Small garage workshop - dust extraction

Sounds like a good approach to me. Which hoover did you use with the fixed pipework out of interest?

Small garage workshop - dust extraction

I know this topic has been kinda done to death but I haven't really found much advice that really suits my situation from a quick search of the forums. I have a small workshop set up in my garage (a single garage, but a bit more spacious than most). The only machine I have is a TS200 table saw...

    Joints for non right-angled frames

It would be fairly sizeable but not as big as the one in the picture. The back panel would be roughly the size of a standard door. I quite like the idea of angling the vertical pieces, I'm sure I could come up with a way of doing this using the table saw and some sort of jig if needed. Thanks...

    Joints for non right-angled frames

Hi, I had a quick search on the forums for an answer to this but surprisingly couldn't find anything (must not have been searching for the right phrase). Basically I'm looking into helping a colleague at work make a bird cage based around a wooden frame for some small parrots as in the picture...
