    Painted kitchen, BUT how?????

Personally, I would definitely not use oak for a painted finish. It's relatively expensive, relatively hard to machine cleanly, and, once painted, looks just like plywood. I'd use either spruce ply with some sort of edge trimming, or laminated solid pine like...

    on the other side

I've been thinking of building a small CNC router to do fancy joints, like isoloc. Can the carvewright replace a dovetail jig, as well as carve?

    Oak gate help

Design the glue out. Use oak dowels through the tenons to pin the joints.

Thanks very much for all the advice, everyone.

    Planing hard maple end grain?

Ah, so that's why they're called block planes. So something like http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx ... 1182,48942 would be suitable, yes? Bearing in mind that this may be a purhcase officially sanctioned by the household accounts department? :D

    Planing hard maple end grain?

We have an end grain hard maple chopping block built into our kitchen. My wife burnt it. I sanded it out with a random orbit sander with rather poor dust collection, which left us both cleaning the kitchen for two hours. I'd like to take more off the block surface, to remove a decade's worth of...

    How to trim this?

Leave it exactly as is. Carpenters of centuries past would have left it, and you'd be treating it as a delightful feature today.

    4-in-1 wood renovator?

My wife saw a TV ad for "4-in-1 wood renovator", http://www.jmldirect.com/product.asp?pf ... 0renovator She threatens to use it on that damage in the utility room that I'll get around to fixing one year soon. Anyone know what's in this stuff? Something magic, or a fancy name for something...

    Sash window parts

    Here's a supplier I've used. They were very friendly. http://www.mightonproducts.com/ Here's another. I've never used them. http://www.reddiseals.com/index.html

    Machine set up

I do like the idea of cutting 7 the same and then custom fitting the eighth. However, trying to be clever, how about this? Cut eight chunks of thin MDF, maybe 6mm thick. Stack them all on top of one another in a neat pile. Set the saw to your best guess at 22.5 degrees. Cut the pile of MDF in...

    Rutlands

Yes, here's the axminster product: http://www.axminster.co.uk/sessionID/IU ... -20301.htm £9.99 but even I struggle to find the enthusiasm to construct push blocks when I can buy then for £3 each.

Extracting dust from various small tools - how?

No, no, no! One connector, not two! Close, but no cigar :-)

Extracting dust from various small tools - how?

Is there some sensible reason why someone hasn't standardised a single hose connection with integrated electric supply? Just one click? Not even Festool do this! Do any hand-portable tools have one? Anyone even seen a patent application for one? Not even a concept router from Vauxhall?

    VOTE! Metric or imperial screws?

Thanks to everyone who voted! As you can probably see from the results above, 60% of voters who expressed a preference opt for metric screws, 40% for imperial. 35% of all voters had no preference, or maybe use both, or something. At least the voting technology works!

    More flooring advice please

Dear Chipp, I just noticed your signature Oh, yes, a man after my own heart. One of the saddest days when I heard B&D had bought ELU. Now, all we have is Festool :) Emrys Williams aka Inventor
