    Router table insert

I decided that I wanted a mild steel plate because I'm interested in sticking things to it with magnets (like the magswitch stuff, although it's pricey). On the other hand I chose aluminium rings because they are softer in the (hopefully very unlikely) event of the cutter touching them. I am...

    Router table insert

Wow, when I started reading this post I was sure I would be too late to join in. Great stuff, although my head is spinning after reading 17 pages! Please put me down for two plates in mild steel and three sets of rings in aluminium. I've never tapped a thread into a hole before - how hard is...

Asking a question of our American friends.

Hee hee. Very brave you two, I'm always far too cautious to poke any fun in those situations. Ian

Asking a question of our American friends.

Turpitude perhaps, as torpitude would probably relate to being fat, sluggish and apathetic. Does the US legislate against that? ;) Ian (getting his coat)

    Screw help needed!

Since you've bought the nails already, why not try hacksawing off the heads and then epoxying them over the screw heads? When you mix up the epoxy you can add a bit of soot to colour it so that any of the glue that shows won't look out of place. cheers Ian

    Finger Tearout! (Now with Gore)

I was very sorry to read this Wizer, but thanks for being staunch enough to post and remind the rest of us to be more careful - I'm sure you've saved at least one other person's finger by doing so. Hope you recover speedily - you seem to have the right mental attitude to do so. Ian

Tormek T-7 review (versus Scheppach versions)

How do you get the 30 pounds off? I don't see that on their website.

    Rare earth magnets and Oak

Obviously I misread your comment about not finding them Neil! Thanks for posting the link - that's a really good selection (I don't know what I want them for, but I want some anyway). Ian

Whoops, just saw that you are in Ireland - a little closer to Lee Valley Tools but still not near enough. :)

    Rare earth magnets and Oak

I don't know where you can source them from in the UK, but a couple of years back I got some from Lee Valley: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx ... 42348&ap=1 There are lots of restrictions on carrying strong magnets by air, so even if you know someone in the states who can help you...

Convering tools to Festool Plug-It System

Yeah, I lived in Japan for a couple of years too and thought those magnetic power leads were great. Household appliances like kettles have them also. The connecting surface was quite large so I'd imagine they could handle a fairly beefy current (my kettle was 1800 watt if I remember correctly). Ian

    Glue for Walnut

I'm going to be making a TV table from walnut veneered MDF, lipped with some solid wood. I saw some comments on Lord Nibbo's recent project post that PVA can turn walnut black... what should I use? By the way Lord Nib, that was a couple of lovely pieces of work you've just done. Thanks Ian

Noel, you forgot to mention where you could get those nice blastgates! :) For others who also wondered, I found them here: LeeValley Lee Valley have such nice stuff...
