    Tenoning with a Spindle Moulder

Thanks all for the advice. Just one more thing, if I go down the double tenon route then there will clearly be more resistance on the cutter / motor. Is there a limit to the size of tooling I could run on this machine? It is very powerful and has a large motor but it's only single phase. Cheers

    Tenoning with a Spindle Moulder

After owning a spindle moulder for a couple of years I've eventually got around to trying it out this afternoon. I thought I'd try making a couple of tenons for a window frame today and used a Euro cutter with flat profile blades installed. I used the carriage for the cut but found that the...

    Hardwood Suppliers?

Hi all, I'm looking for names of good hardwood suppliers ideally in the north but not essential? I know John Boddy Timber used to do lots of this but they went in to administration earlier this year. Many Thanks Andy

    Spindle Moulder Advice please...

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm not totally new to machinery as I have been wood turning for the last few years on my lathe and have bandsaws, table saw, routers, etc. but I agree I should get some advice / training before using the spindle moulder as it is a new ting to me. Many thanks

    Spindle Moulder Advice please...

Hi All, I have bought a spindle moulder (Kity 609ti) which is a combined table saw. I have never used one before and I know very little about them. I have a number of questions which I would be very greatful if somebody could give answers to them. Please excuse me if my questions appear dumb...

    Dovetail Jig Recommendations?

Thanks All. I did actually by a cheap jig from a guy for £20 which turns it to be a Screwfix model. The comb was missing but he told me I could get a replacement for £5 from Screwfix....... Apparently not! So, I've decided to cut my losses and invest a bit more in to a good one instead. I...

    Woodworking bible?

Hi all, I was wondering, is there a really good comprehensive book which details everything about wood working. Such as pro's and con's of timber type, different joints, techniques, tool suggestions etc? I know most hobbies have a favoured book which people often ever to as the bible! Many...

    Gouges and Chuck

No chance of that, I work 65 hours a week, walk the dog twice a day for a total of 10 miles and have a 18 month old little girl who is turning in to a monster!! The only time I will get is half an hour on an evening and maybe 3 hours on a weekend. Anyway, I did have my first ever go of it...

    Gouges and Chuck

Thanks Robbo, I'm sure it will be fine anyway especially for somebody who is as brand new to it as I am. Just looking forward to trying it out. I was supposed to get it Wednesday, but it got delayed so now I am picking it up tomorrow afternoon. I've already staked my claim on Sunday as a play...

    Gouges and Chuck

Guys, Thanks for all of the feedback, it is interesting to see the differences of opinion and certainly gives me something to consider. As I am brand new to turning I think I will probably opt for the record chuck and a set of tools to start with. I appreciate what the drawback can be with...

    Gouges and Chuck

Adam, Thanks for the advice, I think I will opt for the record chuck. As for the tools, my only concern with a second hand set is that I am not familiar with what they should be like when new. If the previous owner had took them to a grinding wheel and done a bad job, I wouldn't know how to...

    Gouges and Chuck

Tomorrow I pick up my new lathe, it's a SIP 01490 which I hope will last me a couple of years until I get some experience. So, I now need the chuck and the tools. The guy in the local Machine Mart recommended the Record scroll chuck for about £120. But for the tools to do the job I have no...
