I believe that to be true - blackthorn ones do.
About 30 years ago we used some sheets of 18mm WBP ply, heavy as hell, that was faced with something dark and we thought African. A couple had to be cut down with a 7 1/4" saw - I was the lucky person. The following day, I could see the minute splinters in scores of blisters down my forearms. The lads I worked with could never understand why I always told them to wipe down cut ends of ply with abrasive before they carried it anywhere - it was a good lesson for them.
