Im going to be carving out signs in oak for a friends house. which paint would you use which is durable for the letters? I'm planning on using danish oil or a uv paint I've been reading about. I'm just stuck with what paint to use for the letters?

Have you thought about using one of the metalcote type paints, they are aerosols and give a great finish that shines like metal. Just remember to put it on last and not to cover with any other topcoat as they react and go dull. Or you could have a go at gilding, there are lots of metals available as a leaf that you put on with the likes of rabbit/fish glue.
