    Quick trend cdj300 question?

I've just bought a trend cdj300 and am a bit surprised that the right (as you look) adjusting nut for the comb does not go through a threaded tube (there is just a hole in the jig body, and a loose one at that) as it does on the right. Does anyone have one of these jigs and can confirm what it...

recommendations for furniture making basics book/websites?

Thanks, some good stuff I had not heard of. Jacob, I would be interested to hear what you think of the mid century making book as I've been looking at that too. The library comment is interesting. It was actually my first place to look using the counties online search but the thing is when you...

thanks guys. i found the steve maskery video, i love the way he's so excited the joint fits so well the first try, but i'm not entirely sure i can make one fit on the old ryobi table i have as there is only one slot. but seeing that it would seem the trend needs another guide to do them that...

please recommend me a cheap 6" sharpening wheel.

thanks for all the comments. i've now got a wide wheel coming from axminster, under a tenner with post, that should, by my measuring, fit my grinder and get me going. not sure what do do about suitable jigs now, whether to try the diy route or look for a used one.

please recommend me a cheap 6" sharpening wheel.

can anyone advise or point me in the right direction please for a cheap as possible sharpening wheel for an old 6" bench grinder that i have. i know this is not an ideal system at all, especially bearing in mind i'm going to have to sharpen freehand as i have no jigs, but i can't find a used...

should i just bite the bullet and get a sorby pro edge?

i've been looking at options for sharpening my chisels, basically starting from scratch with the necessary equipment, and i keep being referred to, and reading on the www, that the sorby pro edge is the way to go. assuming that the plus is worth the extra spend over the standard model, i'm...

    Timber - learning and costs

one of the first scraps i tried i got about halfway through and hit a big old buried nail with my new roughing gouge, not happy, fortunately the damage is not that bad and very fortunately it was just a cheap rutlands one not a sorby or anything like that, but lesson learned there. i play safe...

    Your hollowing out advice/tips please.

I've been having a go at hollowing out a the end of a small cylinder (beech) but it is not going well, mainly I seem to be catching the edge and either knocking my wood out of balance or popping in off the chuck (rp3000). I'm using a hamlet bowl 3/8 gouge with a fingernail type profile, but I'm...

    Lathes Clubs/ startng out

as a newcomer, as in the last month, i can maybe give a bit of a perspective... you can definitely get a great lathe for that cash, just be prepared to look and look and look and also be prepared to travel. i got mine from a classified section of the website of a small woodturning club...

    Burn writing on your work

30quid for a metal brand is spectacularly cheap, i've looked into them a few times and always closer to 100quid if not more. i screenprint onto wood myself, with the right ink the graphic is incredibly hard wearing and the detail really fine. the problems come when the item is small or has an...

help- in need of some very basic advice/guidance

Thanks for the replies. That book, or rather earlier versions, can be found very cheaply on used book websites so I will order one. I'm still a bit unsure about the chuck element. I know of a record rp4000 for sale, would this do for all jobs to begin (I.e candlesticks, spindles and bowls) or...
