Hi all

I'm painting a kitchen unit (bare pine). I spot primed knots and edges using BIN and primed the rest with Zinsser 123.... For a top coat I will be using Alcro Servalac Aqua Matt Täckfärg trä & metal:

The guy in the shop said I would need to wait three weeks before painting over the BIN otherwise it may cause a reaction....

I was under the impression that BIN could be overcoated with almost any paint, and after a short amount of time (tin says 45 minutes).

Just wondered what people's thoughts and opinions on the are please?

Many thanks

Max

I have not used Zinnser bin yet but have been told the same as you that it is quick drying and can be over coated with any finish! Iwas also led to believe it is spirit based which if so will be all of the above?? now I am confused? :?

It is indeed shellac based:

I can't post links so go to zinsseruk followed by dot followed by product followed by dot followed by b-i-n

You should find what you need above.

There are 2 types of sealer that I know of by Zinaser. One is shellac based, the other is water based. The shellac based can be over painted in around 10-30mins depending on surrounding air temp. The water based is a lot longer. 45mins- a few hours.

I don't like to water based for that reason and also because it is a little too thick for my liking and doesn't apply very well
