I’ve spent the last few weeks, whenever time allowed, revamping my workshop and creating as much storage as I could squeeze in. It’s far from finished and probably never will be but at last I have a workbench set up once again and more cupboards and drawers than could be wished for.
Now have to sort out the rest of my "stuff", mainly stored in my other garage and sheds

It’s a roughly 6m x 5m double garage but a good 4 m high walls and is of Bradstone/cavity/block construction. Garage door is a problem and still needs to be draughtproofed as I need to keep it but at least it’s double skinned glassfibre. The electric control gear is a pain but wouldn't be without it. The underside of the tiled roof need to be insulated at some stage as well but the room height makes it difficult to heat anyway so I compromise with a small heater when and where I need it.

Ancient school bench (subject of an earlier post) has now been tarted up, fitted with a Faithfull 9” vice (Record copy) on the front and the previous 7” Parkinson re-fitted as an end vice and danish oiled. I haven’t yet drilled dog holes in the top.

I kept the useful sink area as I have a board sits on top where I use the Tormek when having a sharpening session.

I even have my own ablutions adjascent to the workhop which I incorporated into my recent extension. Centrally heated of course - what luxury

All I need to do now is sort out all the stuff I have, much of which is in my other garage and sheds then I can finally start making stuff

very organised. I have done a similar thing and removed all the gardening equipment and took over my daughters wendy house to house it all. I have tried to put as many things as possible in cupboards and drawers to stop them getting covered in dust. You have a very nice space there to play.

Be honest, have you photoshopped these pictures? that cannot be the same workshop I was in earlier this year, I knew you had a bit of a tidy up but............

Looking forward to a visit in the new year.

Hi Mark

It's a smaller than normal bench and I've had it for 20 odd years but it's been stuck away. It was quite a mess really but solid as hell and very grubby but it's amazing what a session with filler / wood patches and an ROS can do followed by a few coats of danish oil.

At least because it's well used, and new marks don't matter. I know a guy who bought a posh new bench but he's scared to use it in case it gets scratched

I see you also added some mood lighting

 A case of using stuff removed from previous kitchen jobs which my hoarder instinct wouldn't let me throw away.

It's amazing what you find having forgotten you had them. I've unearthed 4 old h/d twin 5ft fittings and numerous tubes, some packs of supsended ceiling bars. Also a box of 20 brand new 4ft slimline tubes which I'll put on the bay or gumtree. Scrap man will be busy once I've sorted out.

The biggest future job is emptying the loft of the toys and stuff left behind by the kids, and persuading them to take it  it will take me a week and I'll have to threaten to skip it I think. The "kids" btw are 30 ish so it's about time!

Lovely tidy job bob! with that many drawers I would have to put labels or write on the fronts to remind what was in them! Too many to remember. Love the way the machines are huddled together to keep warm in the winter and when used they are dragged out into the middle

Wowsers!!! I've got major storage and cupboard envy  really nice n tidy job there

The wall unit doors were from a kitchen job many years ago, units I just screwed together out of old melemine faced chipboard.
All the base cupboards except the sink and corner were salvaged from a local college where they had been thrown out in the rain. I only managed to get around 1/3rd of them which is a shame as the drawer fronts are solid oak - absolute disgrace and waste of valuable resources. I was a part time lecturer there at the time and they didn't give a monkeys.

All the metal shelving and slotted angle again was salvaged from a local business who were chucking it out (my other job btw is a scrapman, or so my missus says  )

OK
Just to put this into perspective and embarassingly I'll show you why it's so tidy. It's 'cos all the junk (stuff worth keeping as come in useful one day) is in here:

That's why I need the shelvse 'cos the next job is to sort it all out and throw the junk

I'm pleased someone else has the same " I know that'll come in one day" outlook on life.

Excellent work space & well organised to boot.

I like the idea of plenty of drawers & cupboards but I don`t think I`d remember what was in where  you must have a good memory.

regards.

I have a pretty good memory in that respect as long as everything is organised, can't remember what happened yesterday though :?
I do tend to label drawers, cupboards and boxes but change it around so often I have to use paper labels that can be removed easily.

I think we're a dying breed. I know my kids throw everything away. Well at least if they have to store it - not bothered as long as it's in my loft and not theirs

When I built that garage 18 years ago, I put an up 'n' over door on both ends with the intention of pulling the trailer through the back and garaging my wifes car. Trailer has never been through and car was garaged for about a week. Much better used for storage and working, especially as I've since built a 5 x 4m covered carport area out back :)

I have a very understanding wife - she has to be
