Hi guys,

My first post so here goes,

I am building a cider press at college for my alevel project and was introduced to the lathe the other day to turn an ash handle, needless to say as soon as the chisel touched the union graduate the bug had taken hold!

I have done a few small bits so far, just messing around really, but i'm looking for a club or a fellow enthusiast around Ipswich to give me a few tips and to help me on my way to some bigger bowls and possibly even some mushrooms :)

Thanks, Jon

Hi Jon,

If you follow this link http://www.woodturners.co.uk you will find under Branches that there are a couple of Clubs nr Ipswich. Subject to which side of town you are, you will have to decide which might be the best to try to get to.

I'm Hadleigh (Suffolk) based pm me if you need any further help.

Phil

Hi Jon,

I attend the West Suffolk club, third Tuesday of the month at Earl Stonham village hall, (actually in Forward Green confusingly!). Having started turning through more general woodworking I've found it really useful for picking up info and ideas. Most times there's a guest turner, sometimes a pro, sometimes a club member. Anyone is welcome to come along, just turn up if you feel like it and see what you think, no commitment required.

I've also been to the Dallinghoo club a couple of times as a guest, similar setup but slightly larger membership. Not sure whereabouts you are exactly so one may be more convenient than the other. I think Dallinghoo meets on a Thursday evening.

I'm far from an expert as I haven't really had the time until recently but would be happy to spend some time talking turning with you if you need any advice.

If you need any more info feel free to PM me or you can contact John Woods on 01728 860214.

Cheers,

Neil.

p.s. I live near Framlingham if that makes any difference.
