Why does a combi boiler have to be pressurised?

Many thanks for the filter tip, a filter seems to be an absolute essential in modern low content boilers,,I think the waterways are small to assist the fast transfer of heat,,unlike our old Potterton, still grumbling away with a belly full of sludge in its innards!
