What tree?

It looks like a young poplar with stripey bark like a cherry.
The freshly cut wood is pinky purple.
There are quite a few other trees which could match the description so I might have to wait until it flowers/fruits.

Any ideas? I though the pink wood would be a give-away perhaps.
