Exactly as the title says, I'm looking to buy a stapler to re-upholster a couple of chairs, I've an ordinary staple gun, but this isn't going to ' cut the mustard' as far as this job goes. As I am new to this I don't want to be lumbered with a stapler that needs special size, or hard to get staples, so probably more 'what not to buy' advice wise.
So, if anyone out there has hands on experience of more modestly priced models , I would be most interested in any comments, and feedback.

"No answer came the stern reply" :)
In the absence of any feedback, I am homing in on a Tackwise A7116v 71 series. It will do what I want, is of medium price, and offers a range of staple sizes. I'll mull it over, for a few more days before taking the plunge.
I will post a review when I have it, for others on a similar quest.

Air sorry!!
No problem - easily done. I did look at other options ,other than air, but air seemed cheaper. The other feature required is the extension that you have on upholstery staplers, where the staples come out This gives better access to those hard to reach places.

Have you got a compressor, ? if so just go machine mart and get one of their cheap guns and run 71/10's through it, they are the most used standard for upholstery guns 71/6's for thin stuff, any compressor will power them, I think I still have one from the late 70's which needs new seals but I believe they are still available

I haven't used the stapler, but I recently got the Axminster headless pinner and am very impressed with it. Seems solidly built, came in a nice case, and I will definitely purchase more from their line in future when the need rises.

They have a couple of staplers as well, all for <£100.

If you decide to go for one of the Axminster models let me know and I will send you a 'refer a friend discount code' which I think gives you £10 off and me £10 credit!

Nails and Staples £97 - Axminster Professional AP1532NS Nailer/Stapler 18G 15-32mm
Narrow Stapler (currently on discount at £72) - Axminster Professional AP1638NS Narrow Crown Stapler 16-38mm
Wide crown stapler £70 (i think this is for upholstering) - Axminster Professional AP0622WS Wide Crown Stapler 6-22mm

If I were you I would lean towards the nailer/stapler just because it means you would have a handy nailer for all sorts of future use. If you are specifically likely to do a lot of upholstering then I think the wide crown stapler is the more specialist tool for that job.

As promised, a follow up, on the Tackwise A7716V, I'm happy with the purchase, as I managed to get it fairly cheaply at £65.75, delivered, which puts it in the medium to low price range - Clarke by comparison is about £45.00.

It comes in a plastic case with a special spanner, Allen key and plastic oil dropper. It is fairly small and lightweight, being only slightly heavier than my old Rapid hand stapler. Once set up, it's a lot easier to use. And it's quieter - a small 'phut', rather than a loud 'clack' - until, of course, the compressor suddenly cuts in, to scare the 'bejaysus' out of you.o_O

I didn't work straight out of the box, because I had to change the air -line connector to match the set-up that I already have. Also, it uses smaller width staples, but is ideal for the upholstery I am doing, at present. Out of interest I've attached a few photos.
