I have always wanted to own a VIceroy Sharpedge but was wondering if 8f they come in 240v as an alternative to 3phase?

I know you can get a 3 phase converter but I don’t want to go down this route.

Also, if you are the owner of a VIceroy sharpedge, let me know what you think of it. I would love to know.

Regards and a Happy 2018 to everyone!

Hello Arnold,
I always wanted one as we used one at Collage but like you had the 3 phase issue.
I ended up getting a Tormek but I am not a great fan of the hollow grind so it had to go.
Because I needed some bigger machines I got a converter and one of first things was a Sharpedge.
That was a few years ago and it’s a great machine, I much prefer a flat grind and the one I have has a cone for gouges that is very useful.
It’s easy to use and if necessary wouldn’t be too difficult to convert to single phase.

Have a good new year.

Ive got a Viceroy sharpedge. I had a Tormek which was hopeless in a joinery shop.

The sharpedge is a great machine for use in a workshop where its used by a number of people.

The chisel holder doesnt work well for narrow chisels -under 3/8" although that can be easily overcone.

The motor on it is tiny so you could prbably quite easily convert to 240v single phase. I cant remember the size, its something like 1/3 HP

They were madd in single phase so you might see one, probably rare though.

The only thing is, its the size of a washing machine! And replacement grinding wheels are about £300!

I had one and they are like already said big things for what they do, I much prefer a belt linisher. They are pretty simple things and you could easily do a motor swap if needed

Thanks for your replies. That means it’s another tool on my wish list! You are right that they are pretty big for what they do.

What’s it like getting spare parts fand r them and where from?

So it’s quite easily to swap motors to get single phase?

Regards
