looks like some kind of oak, possibly red oak...very hard to tell, another shot of the endgrain would really help

First post so Hi..

Is it a piece of parquet flooring.. if so theres a good chance it's Red Oak based on the rays

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Will post an end grain photo tomorrow also will run a couple more pieces through the planer and post those as well.

It is hardwood but went through the planer with a light cut ok. It was originally machined all round and is in incredible condition (flat & straight) considering it was in use for many years.

I have been given about 100 pieces, 900-1000mm long (for firewood) but 50 pieces are this type of timber, all have a rebates along the edges as they were used as shelving.

After the rebates are removed they will finish about 110mm wide. There are 2 thicknesses that will finish about 22mm & 35mm.

Obviously the 50 pieces are not going up in smoke. Come to think about it I am sure I will find a use for the whole lot :) :)

Looking promising. Just found this online even has the same rebate.

Will still post other photo's tomorrow.

Planed a couple more pieces today and took more pics but the result was almost identical to those I posted previously :x . The end grain view was pretty useless although taking 2 cuts with 2 different re sharpened blades the cuts only seemed to burnish the grain, so there was no definitive grain structure showing #-o .

I think with the views posted here and my subsequent Web search it seems that it is most likely Keruing and probably cut from Lorry decking planks.

Again thanks for the suggestions
