Not sure if this is the right place, but am looking to buy some american black walnut and either beech or rock maple for this project. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where might be the best place to do this please. All advice gratefully received, even if it suggests other timbers for the project!!

Many thanks in advance

A local timber merchant who's friendly to low-volume sales to the general public, naturally! ;-)

If you mention where you are, odds are someone in your vicinity will be able to recommend one.

Otherwise, there are some who have websites and deliver (these guys spring to mind), and you'll find a surprising number of small-amounts-of-timber lots on eBay.

You could try Good Timber in Nether Heyford, Northampton. They are not the cheapest but heir stuff is usually good and they are retailers rather than merchants, so not quite so intimidating for hobbyists.
