Hi,

I would like advice please on the safe minimum blade kerf to use with a riving Knife of 2.3 mm. Manufacture states 3mm kerf. But there is a larger selection available with narrower kerf's

Regards,

The kerf needs to be greater than the riving knife. The body of the blade should be less.

But is there a minimum clearance :?: , or is it just as long as the kerf is greater than the knife its ok =D>

that is a good question, but i don't know. I would have thought that a 2.5mm blade would be ok, i probably wouldn't go less. In theory it shouldn't matter, providing that it is lined up perfectly it cant pinch the blade body if it is already pinching the knife, and the kerf is just cutting the path that is wide enough for the knife to pass through.

The alternative is to buy the blade that you want and remake the knife- if you haven't done so, it isn't a difficult task, and there are threads on here about doing so.

It did seem logical to me that as long as the cut was wider than the knife it should be ok and blades usually cut slightly wider than their measured width. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything :) After my recent mishap on the saw  I am double checking everything.

Thank you for your advice

regards
