Has anyone had experience of the above...I have the Record Power DML 305 (belt speed change!) which I like, however it seems the Sip is a copy version of it.
I want variable speed which the Sip has...wondered if it was worth investigating?

If you are looking at the SIP
http://www.sipuk.co.uk/tools/info_SIP01936.html
then you should also look at
http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-axminster-awvsl-woodturning-lathe-prod781208/
They are both 'badged' copies of the same lathe. The prices are different.

Neither are the quality of engineering of the DML305. The choice is yours.

The sip is 550w whereas the Axminster is only 375w so there is a difference - Personally I would prefer the more powerful motor.
