As I mentioned in my first post I've had my lathe quite a few years now and all its done is gather dust until last year when I made my first bowl, since then nothing. That was until about a month ago when I decided I'd neglected it for far too long so I cleaned it up and set to work making a bowl out of sycamore and a honey dipper out of some maple...Neither show-stoppers I know but I'm rather pleased...

Show stopper or not you have had a go and done a good job. Like most things there is always room for improvement. Hopefully you have had the chance to learn some of the tools and get to know what can be done with them. Keep these and use them to look back on and in no time you will see the improvement. I know I did when I first started.

So well done and keep at it most of all enjoy turning

Both look fine to me.
Sure, the bowl shape might not win a design award, but it looks very well finished. I'm struggling to get anything finished or even started at the moment, so good on you!
The honey dipper looks great from where I am standing.
Cheers
Greg

Thanks for all your very kind words. I must say I've learned quite a lot in the last few weeks and intend to carry on putting these new skills into practice.
