I was cutting planks on the SCMS yesterday and when I squeezed the start button the saw reached high speed and immediately ran to a stop and is now dead. I checked the fuse and wall socket and they were OK. It's a Fox saw and has been great until now.

Any ideas please? I don't want to go and buy a new saw to discover there's something simple wrong with the one I have.

Thanks, Brendan

Dust in the 'doings' seems to be a common cause of problems.
Have you tried a blast of Air or some other way of cleaning the switch etc?

In addition, check brush length/free movement/spring pressure.

Also it is not unusual for the power lead to fracture just as it enters the tool.

Finally if there is a soft start or variable speed feature, bypass this just as a test to see it it has failed.

Thanks guys,

I'll do those checks when I go out again. I hope it's something like you suggest because there was no smoke or other usual death throes.
