Anyone know whether the set of seven gauges on special offer (£17 down from £40) are in cannel or out cannel? I'm looking to occasionally scribe a moulding and therefore need bevel on the inside to give me a straight cut but for the life of me cant tell from the photo which way round these are.

cheers

Ask Wizer - he's probably got a set he could sell you!

Seriously, the only way to find out is to ring up Rutlands and ask - don't rely on the picture which may not be an exact match.

Others may have opinions on whether they'd be any good, but you do say it's for occasional use...

What Rutlands say on their website and reality are frequently strangers

DAMHIKT

It will be a cold day in hell before I deal with them again

Hi,

They look shapened on the outside to me, and at £16.95 just how good do you expect them to be! get your self to some carboot sales and pick up nice cast steel ones for a quid each.

Pete

Thanks all, I rang rutlands who didnt know at first, but after consulting someone in the background, tentatively stated they were out cannel and therefore of no use to me. Seems odd they received no proper description other than to call them carpenters gouges, but there you go.

Car boot sales a good idea but i only seem to go to one or two a year, will put it on my list to go.

Ashley Iles gouges are available incannelled for a couple of quid extra, it's possible on anything up to a No 6 sweep.

The ones we carry in stock are outcannelled, but we can have one incanneled for you in a few days, just pop a note on your order.

thats another reason why i dont deal with rutlands - i mean how can they not know what they are selling, you expect thast kind of rubbish in B&Q but from a specialist ???

and that is why i will happily deal with workshop heaven - they know what they are talking about and go the extra mile on customer service - rutlands could learn a lot from matthew IMO
