Hi all

New to this forum and wood working in general.

I am setting up a small work shop using reclaimed wood where ever possible. I have managed to get a hold of some old window frames that i believe to be mahogany, there aprox 6.5cm by 4 cm wide, each length is about a metre long and i have 5 of them, I have been trying to think what i can do with them. I have planed them so there relatively square and have clean edges. A picture frame or mirror etc doesnt seem to quite cut it lol. Any thoughts?

Most of my other things have been made from reclaimed pallets or using old furniture and turning it into something new and for this wood i wanted to try something else out but i dont think i have enough for something like a side table. I have a router and a not so square table saw (cheap clarke one from machine mart) among the usual ordinary domestic hand tools.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions

Welcome to the forum and the hobby.

My advice would be don't rush into using them on something. Good wood is hard to come by and expensive so save it for when you have a project in mind instead of looking for a project in order to use up the wood. Although i have found mahogany substitutes such as sapele look great as tea light holders.

i am still trying to do the basics well as i am no expert and it is something i would have to recommend. You have started off well using and recycling old wood and furniture and is a good way of sourcing free timber.

i would also we recommend building a work shop as large as you can afford it and with as much space as you can spare, ive found after rebuilding mine 3 x you always want bigger!!!

Enjoy and keep us posted with projects
